Overview
After a $25 million renovation in 2015 at the hands of award-winning architecture and design firm Rockwell Group (behind Marina Bay Sands and JetBlue's Terminal 5 in JFK Airport), the Time New York hotel is reborn. Part of the elite collection of hotels by Vikram Chatwal, the hotel now emanates contemporary design elements mixed in with modern art fixtures.
The hotel is located on a quiet, desirable street, a 10-minute walk to Times Square, neighbor to the Eugene O'Neill Theatre ("Book of Mormon") and across from Ambassador Theatre ("Chicago, The Musical"). Rockefeller Center and Central Park are just a 10- to 15-minute walk away.
Arriving at the entrance of the hotel, guests will see a brand-new, modern white façade on the ground level; the remainder of the building resembles an upscale apartment building. Once inside, the entryway of the hotel leads to a gorgeous glass elevator, which shows off the hotel’s chic new interior as you ride it to the second floor. The second-floor reception area features large box windows and upholstered seating areas. Behind the reception area is the hotel’s stylized-yet-dusky LeGrande Lounge, a soon-to-be hot spot for trendy professionals looking to kickback after work (open Monday-Sunday from 5 pm-12 am).
The re-designed hotel has "seductive spaces that provide a sense of calm," per Wallpaper.com. Guest rooms are no different, featuring monochromatic interiors with brightly colored accent pillows. Thoughtfully placed artwork and functional furniture make ideal use of the space -- upgraded rooms are even more spacious. The best parts about the rooms are the whimsical details, from the clear closet to the mirror that turns into a TV and the lighting fixtures that have tiny people inside, alluding to the awe-struck tourists that gaze up at the bright lights of Times Square.
The hotel’s restaurant, Serafina, which is well-regarded among locals, has also received a complete renovation. The restaurant follows through with the hotel’s low lighting theme, yet it emits a vibrant atmosphere with colorful walls, a glass pavilion and a glossy new bar.
