Originally a coaching inn, The Bell in Ticehurst is a cosy boutique hotel with a log fire, beamed ceilings and eclectic décor. Set in the quaint village of Ticehurst, the hotel is close to Pashley Manor Gardens, and Bewl Water is less than five miles away through the East Sussex countryside. Brighton is 30 miles away and Eastbourne is 50 minutes from the hotel.

The National Trust's 14th-century Bodiam Castle, complete with a moat, battlements and the castle's original wooden portcullis, is a 15-minute drive away and Battle, the site of the Battle of Hastings, is 20 minutes' drive away.

The Daily Telegraph desribes The Bell in Ticehurst's décor as full of "quirky surprises", and one of "Britain's most charming and idiosyncratic boutique hotels", and it's little wonder when you see the playful design inside. From French horns as urinals and a silver birch tree trunks in every bedroom to a stuffed squirrel in a rocking chair, this pub with rooms is definitely out of the ordinary.

In addition to the pub and restaurant, there's a rustic snug, complete with log fire.

The seven individually styled bedrooms feature copper roll-top baths, exposed bricks and mismatched tiles. The four lodges outside feature abstract interiors including a wall of vintage-style clocks. We particularly liked the pretty flower installation above the bed in the Pour L'Amour lodge.

Friendly staff, excellent food.

Our room was at the front of the hotel. Sleep was severely compromised by traffic noise during the night and early morning. Room was ‘quirky’ but seemed more designed to be a stage set than for customer comfort. Lighting was particularly poor.

The atmosphere, the room and the amazing bath!

The breakfast also included full English or porridge, which seemed standard so I don't believe it was anything exclusive to TravelZoo.

the room was quirky (as described) but the highlight was the sharing beef. possibly on of the best bits of beef and best cooked I have ever had. Charred to a crust on the outside and red, rare and buttery inside. Truly stunning

We loved the lodge we stayed in and the staff were excellent, friendly and informative and helpful.
Other Comments
We found the food very disappointing in terms of choice. We went with burgers and although very nice there was no additions such as a side salad, nice chutney etc. that we would have expected here.
