Ghyll Manor Hotel & Restaurant is a converted 17th-century timber-framed manor house in Rusper, a small village in West Sussex. It's set in over 40 acres of gardens with a private lake, a terrace with a dais and an old amphitheatre. Inside, vintage and contemporary features include original beams and modern furniture.

Rusper, in the district of Horsham, has a village shop, a park, public tennis courts and two pubs. There are many walking routes nearby, including the 150-mile Sussex Border Path, which runs along Rusper High Street. Nutbourne Vineyards, Arundel Castle and the National Trust's Wakehurst Place are all within 40 minutes' drive of the hotel.

Brighton, with its famous shopping area The Lanes, the Royal Pavilion and Victorian seafront, is around 40 minutes' drive away, and the cathedral city of Chichester is within an hour's drive.

Guests can have drinks and afternoon tea in the conservatory or the Terrace Room, which has a large patio overlooking the gardens. The AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant serves classic dishes with an unfussy modern twist.

There are 29 rooms, all with free Wi-Fi. Standard and Superior Rooms are in the modern Stable Mews in the grounds.

Note: The hotel is eight miles from Gatwick Airport, so there might be some aircraft noise.

Sunday dinner was left over lunch restricted options scant vegetables .lack of fire lit in bar and no barman so ourselves and our friends ended up back in our rooms not what we had planned for our meet up.also despite asking for and writing down for a wake up call none materialised.

Being with friends in a convenient location; the rooms were spacious; the very few staff on duty tried their best; the breakfast was excellent

Sadly the dinner on Sunday eve was left-over Sunday lunch with several menu items no longer available and veggies sparse; the fire in the lounge had gone out and the bar was unmanned (had to ask receptionist cum general everything) for a drink - not conducive to the convivial evening that we had hoped for. Rooms could be wonderful but nice touches missing eg only one bath mat for huge bathroom, sparse toiletries, and coffee/tea facilities pared down to bare minimum eg one pack of two shortbreads, two coffee and two tea portions, not enough milk for all. What could be a really super venue to spend time with friends rather spoilt by penny-pinching- we had hoped to be able to meet up frequently there as a mid point between homes but will explore other options now.

The room was lovely, we had Ringrave which is the Honeymoon Suite. It had a four poster bed, seperate raised lounge area wirh sofa and tv, a large bathroom with shower over bath and two large closets for clothes. It was very warm in the room and very hot water from the taps but all good.

excellent duck breasts. shame about the blunt knife to cut it with plus the difficulty of cutting it served in a bowl, a flat plate woud have been better. that is the only griipe.
