Overview
"One of the area's best values in luxury accommodations" (Fodor’s), Summit Lodge & Spa is a chalet-style hotel with a low-key atmosphere and a retro feel. The location is convenient -- an easy five-minute walk from shops and restaurants -- yet it is very quiet. It is a little further to the ski lifts, but the hotel runs a free shuttle service (December-April), and it is 10 minutes on foot if you choose to walk. In the summer, there are great walking trails around Lost Lake (a 30-minute walk), or you can borrow one of the hotel’s bikes and explore the 19-mile Valley Trail (bikes are free for up to four hours at a time).
This is a pet-friendly resort, and there’s no extra charge. Pets’ names are logged on the VIP Pets board at the front desk, and the hotel can arrange to have a bed and food bowls ready and waiting in your room. Rainbow Park, a 15-minute drive away, has a dog-friendly beach (Barking Bay) and there are two dog-friendly parks within a 10-minute drive.
After a day in the big outdoors, relax in the hotel’s sauna, small heated outdoor pool and hot tub or enjoy a massage at the Balinese spa. For dinner, choose between relaxed Elements, that serves "detail-driven" tapas (Zagat), and the hotel’s Japanese restaurant, which is "Whistler's best sushi spot," according to Lonely Planet. Breakfast is available at both and you can help yourself to complimentary coffee or hot chocolate from the machine in the lobby.
Studios and suites are all large and cozy, with an electric fireplace, a small balcony (in most rooms), and fully equipped kitchenettes, including a stove, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and wet bar. You’ll find an IGA grocery store just across the street, handy for stocking up on essentials. Guests are greeted by a cute sock monkey on the bed (they’re also available to purchase), and there is free Wi-Fi.
