Tregenna Castle Hotel was built in 1774, and is set in over 70 acres of gardens that overlook St Ives and the Atlantic. With an 18-hole par-3 golf course, tennis, squash and badminton courts, beauty treatment rooms, swimming pools, a brasserie restaurant and more, it's a destination in its own right.

The hotel is a 20-minute walk from the white-sand Porthminster Beach, as well as the seaside town of St Ives, which Lonely Planet describes as a "pretty jumble of slate roofs, church towers and turquoise bays". In the 1920s, St Ives was the epicentre of Cornwall's art scene, and today it is home to Tate St Ives -- number 36 on our list of 101 Things to do in Cornwall -- the Leach Pottery and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden.

The South West Coast Path -- which leads to the Hayle Estuary or the picturesque Zennor village -- can be joined within 15 minutes' walk of the hotel. St Michael's Mount is a 20-minute drive away, and Land's End is 40 minutes away by car.

Castle Double Rooms at Tregenna Castle Hotel don't face the sea. Castle Sea View Double Rooms have views across the bay, and some have a sofa bed. You can also enjoy sea views from the Brasserie restaurant, which serves locally sourced seafood, as well as stone-baked pizzas and juicy British steaks.

Beautiful views, delicious standard of food and staff who made exceptional effort with both ourselves and our children.
Other Comments
Rooms are a little tired and need updating but we're extremely clean and the communal areas have been updated. Restaurant serves excellent food. The very steep walk back up the hill from st ives was tricky with a buggy and toddler but there is a taxi service very close. The walk down is fine. The leisure facilities were a good size but the baby pool in particular needs updating as the grouting was black and bits floating. The jacuzzi worked well and the main pool was nice and warm. The staff were so kind and accommodating towards our 18 month old and 3 year old and the facilities are great- a park and pools made for an easy holiday!
