"Room was small but clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Reception was undergoing a bit of a facelift I think or if it wasn’t then it needs one. Breakfast was excellent. Hotel very conveniently placed for everything."

Overview

De Vere Devonport House is in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Maritime Greenwich, an area that is steeped in naval history and contains attractions including the Old Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum.

This 4-star property occupies a collection of historic buildings that once formed part of the Royal Naval College. Its 99 rooms are decorated in contemporary style and have free Wi-Fi. The Officers Mess bar is open for drinks from 5pm, and snacks and drinks are available 24 hours a day from the Pantry in the lobby.

The hotel's landscaped grounds contain a small cemetery where Admiral Hardy (to whom Lord Nelson uttered his dying words at the Battle of Trafalgar) is buried. For more greenery, Greenwich Park is a 2-minute walk from the hotel, and the Royal Observatory is 10 minutes' walk away, at the top of a hill in the park -- the views from the top of the hill over Greenwich and towards Docklands are very impressive.

Tourist spots including the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich Market, the National Maritime Museum and Cutty Sark are all less than five minutes' walk from the hotel. Greenwich railway station, Cutty Sark Docklands Light Railway station and Greenwich Pier are all less than 10 minutes' walk from the hotel, making it easy to take public transport into town -- you can be seeing the sights of central London within 20 minutes. The O2 Arena is a 20-minute bus ride away.

The hotel was in an excellent position for exploring Greenwich. The hotel itself was quite run down and needed refurbishment. Breakfast was very good value. Staff in the Captain's Bar were not very helpful - apparently unable to serve a coffee at 9.50pm as we were told 'We are closing in 10 minutes' - not good customer service we felt which was a shame.

Love this hotel. The positioning is great and Greenwich has so much history and many things to see, right on the doorstep. Central London just boat or bus ride away. We expected continental breakfast and got large buffet of both hot and cold foods, excellent. Loved our free Prosecco from Travelzoo deal!

Reception area and lounge bar needs updating. Bar was empty both nights, no atmosphere, shame as sone lovely furnishings. Only food available at night was in bar. We used local restaurants.

The staff at Devonport House are very friendly and that sets the tone but the rooms are tired and in need of refurbishment to bring them up to scratch The bonus was the breakfast which was very well presented (with a hot option which was not advertised) although peak time was very busy.

This hotel is in a great location and if properly refurbished throughout including double glazing (or at least secondary to reduce road noise and air conditioning it would become a destination hotel for Greenwich and London which is easily accessed via the DLR

Clean and comfortable. A good breakfast but the hot drinks were warm at best. Bathroom clean but needed attention for mould on grouting around the bath and on tiles.

Wanted a central position to all the sights of Greenwich ...and we got it.

Don’t expect luxury, but clean and comfortable. Pity though that we got a view of the enormous generator and service area...it would have been perfect had we had an attractive outlook from our room. Still, luckily it was quiet!
