Featuring 70 rooms and 40 suites, the Madison "is the best boutique hotel in the central business district, and oozes sophistication" (USAToday's 10Best.com). Housed in the historic Tennessee Trust Bank Building, this 4-star spot has a sleek look, swanky interiors and a great rooftop lounge in America’s "Blues City."

The "sleek, modern rooms" (The Guardian) have contemporary finishes, art deco wallpaper and artwork that pays tribute to the area’s rock 'n' roll history. Rooms also feature flat-panel TVs, in-room Keurig coffee makers and down comforters. Plush bathrobes and rainfall showerheads come standard, while suites have a separate living room and a jetted tub.

Make sure you venture upstairs to the Twilight Sky Terrace, which 10Best.com called a "super-chic space with commanding views of the Mississippi." The bar offers cocktails, small plates and seating around an open fire pit, and Lonely Planet calls it “one of the best places in town to watch a sunset." The nightly happy hours can easily turn into late-night parties; a DJ spins Thursday-Saturday nights.

Remember to pack your workout gear as the hotel has a gym, recently featured in Men’s Health Magazine, carved out of the 100-year-old bank vault and newly restocked with state-of-the-art equipment. Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout the hotel, and guests can arrange for in-room massage or yoga sessions.

Just three blocks away is the mighty Mississippi River and the iconic Beale Street, dotted with blues, jazz and rock ‘n’ roll venues. Sun Studio, where Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash recorded their first hits, is a short tram ride away. Graceland, Presley’s former home and final resting place, is a 20-minute drive.

From the press:
  • "A chic, urban, boutique hotel" -- The Guardian
  • "An upscale boutique property offering sumptuous furnishings, first-class service, and rooftop river views" -- Frommer's
  • "Guests and chic locals head to the rooftop garden bar for happy hour against sunset views of downtown Memphis and the Mississippi River" -- Travel + Leisure

We could walk to Beale street and the river.

I am not sure I realized they were in the middle of renovating before booking but the main attraction was the rooftop patio and that was CLOSED and this was NOT told us or I would.not have booked here. Also it was touted as luxury and there was nothing luxurious about the plain room.and bath. I asked for a view and we looks out into the windows of the next building. We had one night and morning and the hotel.was a big disappointment. I love a view. No view. We have stayed in hotels a lot nicer for less money. Even a small.water in.our room.was $4. I feel.we ahould be reimbursed for not being told.the rooftop was closed and that we could.get a room with no.privacy if we opened our curtains.

Rooms do not have much information about charges you might incur. Snacks are left out in the room with no indication you will be charged. Staff is very nice however and answered all questions we had. Loved the rooftop bar but did get very bad chigger bites. Also, the air conditioning in the rooms does not seem strong enough. Despite constantly lowering, it didn't get below 78.

Very Rock n Roll hotel!!! Loaner guitars & playable piano in the lobby was a great touch. Enjoyed iPhone speaker in our room & sitting on the rooftop sipping cocktails in the evening. Attached restaurant offering room service for breakfast shouldn't be skipped! Only thing this hotel should work on is cleanliness. Bathroom shower tub & floor was moldy.

Great location. 3Eighty Lounge is excellent. All employees we encountered were professional and friendly. Valet is pricey but a good option. Rooftop bar (not enclosed) is WAY too hot in summer. Sunset over the river is beautiful but brutally uncomfortable.

The hotel is nice. I would like to offer a few suggestions as we are seasoned travelers. We stayed on the 16th floor and the room temperature was 75 degrees. I called the front desk and maintenance did respond however the temperature remained the same for the duration of my trip (5 days). The room was surface clean. Our room was very dusky and the shower area could use some cleaning as there is mold in the bath area. Not sure if staffing was an issue around the July 4th weekend. I admit to calling for room service at 10:00 a.m. I was told by Nikki (front desk staff) she would call back to obtain the order as she was the only person working and had a guest present. As time went by, I called back around 10:20 a.m. because breakfast ends at 10:30. I was again told by Nikki she was unable to take the order because she was working with a guest. While polite, this is inappropriate. Nikki sensed the frustration and called back within 2-3 minutes to take the order.
