"ON THE POSITIVE SIDE: It was centrally located, the hotel was clean, the bar on the first floor was fun and had many options and for the most part the staff was friendly. Our check-in front desk person wasn't very nice. All in all a good trip except for one issue. ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE: The Travel Zoo advertisement shows a roof top area with couches and chairs. The website shows that same so we chose the hotel because my wife and I wanted to sit on the roof. We went to a wine shop and purchased some wine and cheese to enjoy the city views but when we checked in we were told that the rooftop is only for private parties and we couldn't use it. Needless to say we were disappointed."

Overview

Winning praise from U.S. News & Travel Report for being "both central and affordable", MileNorth, A Chicago Hotel also has a brand-new restaurant, popular rooftop bar and enviable views.

Set on a tree-lined street, the hotel is a block from the high-end shopping of Michigan Avenue (otherwise known as the Magnificent Mile) and is ideal for sightseeing -- five blocks from the nearest "L" train station and a 10-minute walk from Lake Michigan and the Tribune Tower.

For many though, the 29th-floor rooftop bar is the property's real draw. Not only does it garner rave reviews ( Fodor’s calls it "outstanding"), but it also has some of the best views in Chicago. Small plates, craft beers and cocktails are served from 5pm nightly, or drop by the hotel’s newest restaurant, Ferris & Jack, for mid-west American fare, including a modern take on the Chicago hot dog.
Rooms are spacious and there are a maximum of 11 rooms on each floor, with floor-to-ceiling windows. The hotel is surrounded by high-rises, so, while a few rooms boast stunning street views, many face other skyscrapers.

Pets are welcome (extra charges apply). There is also a well-equipped gym and a 24-hour business centre.

From the press:
  • "Its personal touches and low-key attitude gives it the feel of a small, neighbourhood find" -- Frommer's
  • "In an often overlooked section of Chicago just east of Michigan Avenue, this hotel offers an outstanding 29th-floor outdoor bar with an enviable view of the city" -- Fodor's
