Why We Love This Hotel
- Away from the flash and frenzy of South Beach, in the calmer, more residential and laid-back Mid-Beach area
- The beach is a short walk away, and isn't as crowded in these parts
- The hotel encourages wellness through its yoga classes, holistic spa treatments and gym with ocean views
- A roof deck has sun loungers and views for days
With a historic deco exterior bleached a sparkling white, and interiors that were buffed and revamped in mid-2014, the Hotel Croydon makes a strong case for straying away from touristy South Beach up to the more laid-back, relaxing reaches of Mid-Beach.
Peace, both inner and outer, pervades the hotel. The spa employs holistic massage techniques, and meditation classes are led in the penthouse fitness center. Up on the rooftop patio, guests flow through yoga postures or recline on loungers while watching the sunrise over the ocean or sunset over the city. There's a swimming pool on the ground floor, and the beach is about a three-minute walk east.
In rooms, porcelain floor tiles are stained to look like mahogany wood, while reclaimed timbers make up some of the seating and dressers. Beneath the 300-thread-count sheets, mattresses are layered with cooling gel memory foam.
