About the itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Malaysia. When you arrive in Kota Kinabalu, make your way to your hotel. Arrival transfers can be pre-booked at an additional charge.

Day 2: After breakfast this morning, you'll take a 30-minute boat trip to the secluded beaches and clear waters of Art Dinawan Island. Your boat will take you directly to the coral reefs, where an experienced snorkelling guide will direct you. Alternatively, you can choose to take a kayak for a paddle. You'll return to Kota Kinabalu by boat; the evening is yours to spend as you please.

Day 3: This morning, you'll drive to the foothills of Mount Kinabalu. Your first stop will be Poring Hot Springs, a popular local destination. Here, you will find a canopy walk offering magnificent views, a butterfly garden and an orchid garden. You'll continue to Kinabalu National Park, where you will meet a guide who will take you along the trails of Malaysia's first world heritage site. This mountain is one of the world's most important biological sites and is home to over 800 species of orchids, 600 species of ferns and 326 species of birds.

Day 4: You'll head out to the countryside today to meet the local community of the picturesque village of Kiulu, where you'll learn about their customs and way of life. You'll also visit a local market to buy ingredients to take to your cooking class! You'll be guided by a local chef who will teach you how to prepare traditional Sabahan dishes. After you enjoy this delicious lunch, you can dip into the cooling river water before returning to Kota Kinabalu.

Day 5: Today, you'll head to the airport to meet your flight to Sandakan. On arrival, you'll be transferred to the local jetty to meet your boat transfer to Selingan Island, which is famous for its turtle hatchery. In the evening, you'll see green turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs under the moonlight, and you'll see the researchers release protected hatchlings and guide them toward the water. You will spend the night on the island.

Day 6: This morning, enjoy a one-hour boat trip back to the mainland, where, upon arrival, you'll commence your tour of Sandakan. You'll visit the Sandakan Memorial Park, the Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple, and St. Michael's Church, and you'll learn about colonial days at the Agnes Keith Museum.

Day 7: Come face to face today with Malaysia's incredible orangutans at The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, which was initially set up to help reintroduce these animals back into the wild after a life of domestication or having been orphaned. You'll then continue to The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center.

Day 8: You'll discover the massive Gomantong Cave today. This is one of the largest cave systems in Sabah and a popular tourist attraction. It is famous for its unique ecosystem, home to incredible wildlife, including bats, kingfishers and wild orangutans. From here, you'll be transferred to your rainforest lodge for the next two nights. You will embark on your first river safari this afternoon along the Kinabatangan River.

Day 9: You'll be fully immersed in Borneo's natural wonders today, and you'll enjoy early morning and evening river safaris. Wildlife along the river includes the Bornean gibbon, Borneo pygmy elephant, orangutan, and proboscis monkey, along with myriad species of birds that will keep you glued to your binoculars.

Day 10: Today marks the end of your tour. You will be transferred to Sandakan Airpot to catch your flight home.
