Best Western Priory Hotel occupies a Grade II-listed 18th-century property in the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds.

The property is around five minutes' drive from St Edmundsbury Cathedral and the ruins of the town's medieval abbey. Greene King -- one of the UK's most famous breweries -- hails from Bury St Edmunds, and a great way to discover the town's 1000-year-long brewing history is by following the Bury Ale Trail. The Trail includes The Nutshell, one of the smallest pubs in Britain.

Cambridge and Ipswich are both 35 minutes' drive away from the hotel, while the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is around 40 minutes' drive away. The landscape was made famous in paintings by John Constable such as "The Hay Wain", and is known as Constable Country.

This "attractively decorated" and "tastefully furnished" hotel sits within landscaped gardens and has three AA Silver Stars, which signify a superior level of quality, hospitality and service within a star rating. Its Garden Room restaurant has an AA Rosette and the Terrace Bar serves locally brewed Greene King real ales.

Superior rooms are recently refurbished and Wi-Fi is free.

The highlight of our stay was a female member of staff named Jo who was really excellent and deserves credit in trying to keep a smile on our face.

Due to a Christmas party we were only able to have dinner in a side room with a very early time. This was not suitable for us at all. Our room was also located right above the Christmas party where the disco was so loud it made the floor vibrate in our room. We could have changed our room but this would have meant a downgrade and a walk outside. Bar service was poor and staff grumpy.

The rooms are tired and scruffy but as clean as you could get given the circumstances, bed linen was fresh & clean and good quality. The food was average and good enough value on a TravelZoo deal. The staff ranged from rude and unhelpful to very pleasant and accommodating! Bizarre...

Access for people with mobility problems is a big problem - there’s a little lift down the steps to the bar but none to the restaurant. There’s up & down steps everywhere and even getting to a ground floor room is difficult.
