Overview

Durker Roods Hotel is in the picturesque West Yorkshire village of Meltham, on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park.

The manor house dates back to 1870 and was once the private residence of Huddersfield entrepreneur Sir David Brown, who owned Aston Martin from 1946-1972, and after whom the famous DB series of cars is named. The building has maintained many of its original features, with traditional décor -- including fireplaces and chandeliers -- complemented by contemporary comforts such as free Wi-Fi. There’s also a modern restaurant serving traditional British cuisine for lunch and dinner.

The hotel is a 10-minute drive from Holmfirth, which has a selection of shops and tea rooms. Tours and wine-tasting sessions are available at the award-winning Holmfirth Vineyard. Shibden Hall & Park, EUREKA! National Children's Museum, Kirklees Light Railway and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park are all around 30 minutes' drive away.

For a day trip, the Brontë Parsonage Museum in pretty Haworth, Royal Armouries Leeds, Harewood House, the Emmerdale Studio Experience, Yorkshire Wildlife Park and York Racecourse are all around an hour's drive from the hotel.

The countryside surrounding the hotel has featured in numerous British TV series and films, including "Happy Valley", "Emmerdale" and "Last of the Summer Wine", much of which was filmed in Holmfirth. There's now a museum and an open-top bus tour to showcase the famous locations from the TV series.

The area is prime hiking territory, with some of the Peak District's most famous walks within a 10-minute drive of the hotel. After a day of exploring, you can enjoy the views across the rolling hills from the hotel bar, lounge or outdoor beer garden.

The hotel was lovely but with nothing to do in the surrounding area our stay was a bit quiet

Staff were really friendly and helpful. Couldn’t do enough. The hotel however is a bit tired. Bar needed livening up and the room was clean and nice but not one of the ones from the photos. Food was lovely and we enjoyed our stay. Would go back spring summer for better weather and walks on the peaks etc

The food was very good. The mattress was poor quality and uncomfortable (could feel the springs). The room wasn't made up on the second day. The towels were new (Wilco) and hadn't previously been washed (still had sticky labels on).

We enjoyed our stay. The food was superb, both breakfast and evening meal, and our room was brilliant
Other Comments
The bar and restaurant are too austere, particularly the bar. I know that the new management are on a program of improvement , but maybe a few pictures on the walls, and perhaps an open fire would be more welcoming. The atmosphere, which is all important, is lacking

All the staff were very attentive, breakfast was excellent and evening meal was first class
Other Comments
Visitors must try black pudding and local sausages, very scrummy

Period property close to Yorkshire moors, clean and tidy with sincere Yorkshire hospitality. Buffet breakfast with excellent sausages and superb black pudding. Nice evening meal with welcoming glass of Prosecco. Overall, exceeding expectations experience.

We went with the Travelzoo deal and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the duck and lobster ravioli that we had as our main courses were wonderful. Room 1 was lovely although I struggled with the large curtains on the pole!! Fabulous modern bathroom. Only negative comment might be that breakfast is very limited if you don’t want the hot breakfast buffet and could do with a fresh fruit salad bowl, muesli a range of yogurts and maybe some croissants/ pastries. But great value for money and we would visit again if in the area

Nice place. A way to go to be 5 star, but with better beds and bedding, bit extra cleaning in bedroom they'll be on the right road. Lovely staff, fab evening meal. Great value offer. Thank you.
