Overview

Armagh City Hotel is a contemporary property that's a short walk from the centre of Armagh, a small, attractive cathedral city set in lush countryside.

This contemporary hotel is five minutes' walk from the Georgian city centre, where guided walking tours are available. The city has two cathedrals -- one Roman Catholic and one Church of Ireland, both named after St Patrick -- which face each other on adjacent hilltops. Events in the city during spring and summer include July's John Hewitt International Summer School, which offers a programme of readings, talks and workshops, and the 7 Hills Blues Fest in August, which sees music performances held across the city.

Navan Fort, which is one of Ulster's most important archaeological sites, is a 5-minute drive from the hotel. It has a Celtic living-history museum that tells the story of the fort and its importance in Irish pre-Christian mythology. A summer solstice celebration is held there every year. Outdoor enthusiasts can cycle through County Armagh's orchards (there are so many that Armagh is known as the "Orchard County"), follow walking trails along the wildlife-rich Oxford Island Nature Reserve or try kayaking and surfing at the lakeside Craigavon Watersports Centre, which is around 30 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Guests can dine at the hotel's wood-panelled restaurant (open Thursday-Saturday), which serves international dishes, or the cosy bar (open seven days a week), which has a fireplace and offers carvery lunches and a grill menu for dinner, as well as afternoon tea and cocktails. The health and fitness club has a gym, an indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room and a hot tub. Beauty treatments are also available (supplements apply).

Guestrooms have free Wi-Fi, TVs, and tea- and coffee-making facilities, while higher-tariff rooms add balconies with views of the neighbouring County Armagh golf course. Room service is available 24 hours a day.

We had a lovely time, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
Other Comments
Only negative comment we would make was that the decor in the room we were in was a bit tired. There were a few cobwebs in the corners and all the lampshades were stained however none of this had an adverse effect on our stay.

I went to spend the weekend with my mum for her birthday and we had a very nice time in County Armagh, the weather was good which helped.
Other Comments
I enjoyed the hotel and also used the swimming pool. In the Grill bar restaurant there was always sport on the numerous televisions, and to be honest this would put me off using the grill bar, I think they could dedicate a section of the grill bar to the partons who are there to watch sport on tv - there is a mezzanine floor that could be used. (obviously most people watching tv would be local people who use the restaurant). There is also live music in the bar at the weekends. The music starts after 10.00pm, which is a bit late, especially if you want to get up early for the breakfast (before 10am).
