The 4-star Bridgewood Manor is a great base from which to explore the nearby countryside, coast, cities and towns. The "gentle hills" and "beautiful coastal stretches dotted with beach towns and villages" (Lonely Planet) of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are five minutes' drive away.

Rochester, a charming town full of historic buildings, is a 10-minute drive away. It has a Norman cathedral and a 12th-century castle keep; we recommend climbing up to the battlements to take in the views of the town and the River Medway.

The historic city of Canterbury, where you can follow a sculpture trail through the parks and gardens or visit the famous cathedral, is around 35 minutes' drive away.

Dover and its castle are 50 minutes' drive away, while the "legendary" (Rough Guides) White Cliffs are a little further.

The hotel has "excellent" (The AA) leisure facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, treatment rooms and a tennis court. There is also a formal dining restaurant and a bar.

We were there for a short break and enjoyed the experience. There is a real family atmosphere there. It was my husband’s birthday and they made him feel special.

Great customer service from all staff in the hotel. The food in the restaurant is not to any standard, we had to send it back 3 times and they were unable to serve what was listed on the menu.

Lovely hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful spa and pool. Nice hearty food. If I was hyper critical the spa lacked a jacuzzi but otherwise we had a lovely stay.

This was a lovely hotel strategically positioned for the North Downs AONB. The food in the restaurant was very good, although there were a number of things which they had run out of, which was disappointing on a limited choice menu. A couple of other let downs included the inflexibility of staff or policies. We booked on the understanding that we would be upgraded to a superior room (subject to availability). On arrival, we were told that there were none available (after asking whether we had been upgraded). The receptionist was a bit short with us and dismissive. I booked this weeks ago and surely the rooms could have been reserved then or we could have been told that there were none due to a wedding and 50th party in the hotel. This must have been known before. Maybe, they could have been more apologetic and compensated us with a free drink. we had a similar experience on the final day. I booked a separate Travelzoo experience of spa access and two treatments. The hotel was doing well as we had access anyway as guests. The offer included a drink and Danish pastries. We got the hot drink but waited over twenty minutes for the pastries. Again there was some hostility when asking about this. when the pastries arrived, the drink was long gone and I asked for a refill. This seemed to be that I was asking for the safe keys and after waiting and feeling a burden, we left without a top up. We had late checkout but were locked out of our rooms after normal checkout time and had to chase up staff to get back in. Overall, a nice hotel and experience with some disappointing peripheral matters, which could have been avoided. I guess we felt like second class guests as we were there on a special offer.

We asked for room service and when the food arrived I had to ask for tomato ketchup. We had no knifes and fork to eat our food with. No serviette. We both ordered Barbecue Ribs one had sauce on and the other did not. The chips that came with our order were cold and hard. The steam room, there was not much steam coming out. In the gym more than half of the machinery did not work and what did work was very noisy.
