Why We Love This Hotel

  • This hotel brings a "new brand of luxury" (Chicago Tribune) to downtown Chicago
  • Literally steps from Cloud Gate (aka "The Bean") and Millennium Park
  • Tech-friendly perks include smart TVs and eco-friendly thermostats
  • Opened in October 2018 after completely renovating a historic bank building

Overview

Named after St. Julian, the patron saint of travelers, this new hotel in downtown Chicago hosts guests steps from Millennium Park, the Loop and the Mag Mile. Recently opened in October 2018, this hotel lives in a revamped high-rise rebuilt from the ground up and beyond — it added extra floors atop the former office building to offer rooms with better views.

Rooms feature king or double queen beds with 300-thread-count linens, desks with wireless chargers and USB outlets, along with 55-inch smart TVs with streaming capabilities. Rooms also include handheld steamers to make sure your look is on-point before heading out to dinner or drinks. Wi-Fi is covered under the daily urban fee which also includes business center access, bottled water upon arrival, in-room Nespresso coffee service and access to the on-site fitness center (with Peloton bikes).

The hotel's on-site restaurant, About Last Knife, focuses on steakhouse fare including dishes like steak tartare and Beef Wellington. Breakfast is also served daily and there are happy-hour specials on weekday afternoons. Valet parking is also available. The hotel sits just across the street from Chicago's famous Millennium Park, making this a great place to stay if you're coming to town for a concert, event or festival.

Great location if taking the train to Millennia train station on Randolph st., hotel is not even a 1/2 block away. Many choices for eating. They let us check-in an hour earlier. A good walk to mainstream Michigan ave. but, go West on Randolph to State and there are many main steam stores/restaurants to shop and eat at along with all the major theaters.

Love this hotel. We would have given it 5 stars on the room as well if it weren’t for ‘gas station quality’’ toilet tissue. Seriously? Very nice hotel and when you tear the toilet paper off it rips down the middle because it is one ply and see thru. Otherwise, we love this place and it is our third time here.

The shower clogged and water was all over the floor. There was no city view.

Centrally located, fresh room decor

The hotel room was located across from the elevator bank, so it was as loud as you would expect at certain times. However, from the window side of the room was the delivery alley and train tracks.. in downtown Chicago this is a constant and was very disturbing without adequate soundproofing, we were on the 17th floor I travel almost monthly and this is the first time in my experience where I actually mentioned it at the front desk - they were pleasant but said they could not move us. Staff are friendly, rooms are fresh and well decorated, however even sleeping with ear plugs didn’t shut out the din and I wouldn’t use this hotel again. For our first 2 nights of our Chicago stay we were at Hilton gardens around the corner and didn't experience any of this extremely loud noise. MD

design is quite urban minimal and nice, however, the MEP equipment could be better. The electrical socket has a continuous buzz, and the light in the bathroom has that too. Sliding door is very heavy to operate.
