Hotel Jardin le Bréa is a popular budget pickon the Left Bank, hidden down a 1-way street off the Boulevard du Montparnasse. With only 23 rooms, it is an intimate bolthole, set in a friendly neighbourhood that’s brimming with pavement cafés, bars and shops.
Sandwiched between Montparnasse and the boulevards of Saint Germain, the hotel makes a great base for visitors. Sightseeing starts right on the doorstep -- Montparnasse Tower and its 54th-floor viewing terrace is a 10-minute stroll away, and it’s only two blocks to Luxembourg Gardens and its museum. The hotel is also less than half an hour on foot from the banks of the River Seine, Notre-Dame Cathedral and Sainte Chappelle. Take the RER from Pont-Royal station (10 minutes away) or catch a metro from Vavin station, just at the end of the road, to get further afield.
A continental breakfast of pastries, cereal, baguette and scrambled eggs is served in the hotel's dining room, beneath an old arched stone ceiling. There's also a help-yourself honesty bar in the lounge, piled high with spirits, soft drinks and wines (extra charge applies), and a Nespresso machine supplies free coffee around the clock.
The bedrooms here are small but cosy. All are well equipped with air conditioning and free Wi-Fi, and some also boast Juliet balconies overlooking the inner courtyard. Upgrade to a Superior Room for more space. Rooms facing the street can be a little noisy in the evenings (this neighbourhood is known for those aforementioned bars). There is a lift but it’s only large enough for one guest at a time.
