The Lincoln Hotel

Why We Love This Hotel

  • The hotel is opposite Lincoln Cathedral and five minutes' walk from Lincoln Castle
  • You can see ruins of the Roman city wall and East Gate in the hotel's grounds
  • Lonely Planet praises Lincoln's "tangle of cobbled medieval streets" and its "colossal 12th-century cathedral"

"The room we had was a little tired and the bathroom was in need of an upgrade, especially the shower hence only 2 stars above. The food at dinner was excellent and the chef, (who we did not meet) was obviously very good and should be proud of his menu and skills. The waitress was also very good and pleasant."

The Lincoln Hotel, a refurbished 1960s property next to Lincoln Cathedral, is a great base from which to explore the medieval city. The hotel is close to the Westgate Water Tower, The County Assembly Rooms, the Priory Arch and the Medieval Bishops' Palace.

Lincoln Castle, a Norman castle constructed in the late 11th century by William the Conqueror, is five minutes' walk away. The Collection Usher Gallery, which houses an eclectic range of works by famous artists, decorative arts and timepieces, and the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, which celebrates the culture of Lincolnshire and its people from 1750 to the present day, are both within 15 minutes' walk away.

Doddington Hall and Gardens is 20 minutes' drive away and the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is 40 minutes away.

The hotel's AA-Rosette Green Room restaurant combines traditional flavours with a contemporary twist and sources local ingredients. "The Green Room has a striking, design-led interior, with candles and fresh flowers adding a homely touch", says The AA, which also praises the hotel's "superb uninterrupted views of Lincoln Cathedral".

You can relax in the lounge with a coffee and a cake or have a pre-dinner aperitif in Bar 67, which has retro déco -- its name is an ode to the spirit of 1967, when Jimi Hendrix played a sold-out gig at Lincoln's ABC Cinema.

Rooms are decorated with modern designs and all come with Wi-Fi and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Superior Rooms have views of Lincoln Cathedral or garden views, and some have a private patio.

Really good value- The food in The Green Room nice but the hotel was trying too hard to be different and seemed to receive a lot of negative comments not may empty plates. Maybe more 'Gastro Pub' style food would be easier and not receive so many complaints.

Very convenienly situated for the cathedral and castle, plus all the main streets. Food was good; rooms a bit shabby but clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
