Established in 1887, this historic hotel was rebranded with a new concept and renovated facilities, as a new member of the “Collection of Beautiful Japan.” The renovation incorporates the character of the region and the hotel’s nearly 130-year history into the concept of reviving the “Matsumoto Lifestyle, Simple Beyond Beauty.”

The old building offers a chic retro atmosphere. Each 33sqm Comfort Twin Room has a private balcony and a bath with great views of the city, which gives you a feeling of openness although located in downtown. Deluxe Twin Rooms are 34sqm and reminiscent of small European hotels. Matsumoto Mingei furniture blends into the bright retro décor of this room.

Cuisine at the hotel's onsite restaurant is crafted under supervision of executive chef, Mr. Soushi Ueno, who trained in the five-star "Hotel de Crillon" in Paris and later worked as the sub-executive chef at the 2-Star Michelin Restaurant "Beige Alain Ducasse Tokyo."

The hotel is a 5-minute walk from one of Japan's national treasure - Matsumoto Castle. It's also a 4-minute walk from historic streets like Nawate Street and Nakamachi Street. The former, also known as Nawate-dori, offers a glimpse into Japan of old and boasts food stalls and shops selling everything from curios to children's books; perfect for souvenir shopping.

A 5-minute drive away is the Matsumoto Museum of Art. As the birthplace of the world famous Yayoi Kusama, the museum centrally displays some of her works. It is also only here at the museum where you can also see Yayoi-designed polka dot vending machines.
