Why We Love This Hotel

  • Cross-country ski or snowshoe at Eastern Promenade and Green Belt Trails — 10 minutes by car
  • Freebies include Starbucks coffee, Wi-Fi and loaner bicycles; there's also no resort fee — a rarity among upscale hotels these days
  • Guests can sample locally sourced seafood served at the on-site BlueFin North Atlantic — we suggest checking out the raw bar
  • Rooms here overlook the Old Port and come with high-end amenities like soaking tubs and granite counter-tops, plus "amazing bedding" (Conde Nast Traveler)

"We had a lovely stay at the Portland Harbor Hotel. It is in the center of the Old Port and surrounded by the boutique shops and restaurants for which the Old Port is known. And the walk to the Portland Museum of Art and the other city attractions is an easy one. The hotel is very bright and sunny, the friendly service was top notch and included turn down service . We had an unusually tasty breakfast at the hotel restaurant and again wonderful service - highly reccommend. The one caveat to all of this is that the light for reading could have been better for our elderly eyes."

Overview

A short stroll from the waterfront in the historic Old Port District, the Portland Harbor Hotel is also within a 10-minute walk of the Victoria Mansion, Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine. A half-mile away, you'll find a ferry servicing nearby coastal islands as well as sightseeing cruises of Maine's rugged beaches and lighthouses.

Rooms here are outfitted in nautical-themed furnishings and overlook the cobble-stoned streets of the Old Port through large picture windows. They come with down bedding, too, plus granite counter-tops and deep soaking tubs in the bathrooms. Outside the room, you'll find a touchscreen Starbucks machine with complimentary coffee, tea and seltzer water. Guests also have free access to the hotel’s bicycles, fitness center and outdoor fire pits.

For breakfast, lunch and dinner, the hotel’s BlueFin North Atlantic Seafood serves locally caught seafood and seasonal ingredients grown throughout Maine (come spring we suggest dining al-fresco on the outdoor patio). To reach the city’s attractions and restaurants, the hotel provides a town car service for guests.

We went to Portland to enjoy the restaurant scene. Portland Harbor Hotel is conveniently located so we could walk to the restaurant. We then stopped at a pub to enjoy local music.

Travelzoo deal was a bargain, especially with the food voucher. Room was clean, nice harbor view. We live nearby and this was just a fun one night staycation, but I would recommend the PHH for any stay.

If you visit by car use the valet parking. Portland parking is limited and expensive and you won't do better in a public lot.

We had a great one night getaway. Only issue was the hotel did not have hot water the morning of our check out. They apologized and covered the valet parking fee for the inconvenience. We would definitely recommend and look forward to returning in the future.

A few days earlier I was unable to get a dinner reservation due to being all booked up. Upon check in I mentioned this to Colton at desk. He went and spoke to John the Maitre d’ and he found us one. Also the chocolate rose in the room with a Valentine note was very nice. Small things like that make a huge impression. This made our Valentine. Night the best.

We enjoy taking advantage of the Portland Harbor Hotel's off-season offers. We have stayed with them for several years now, and the hotel is a nice place for a couple of getaway nights. The rooms could use a few basic improvements. There is virtually no place to hang anything, except for a few hangers in the armoir. A few hooks near the door or on the side of the armoire for hanging coats, etc. would go a long way. Also, although the HVAC in the room works well, there are no heat/AC supply vents in the bathroom, so in the winter, even if you keep the room at 72F, the bathroom is frigid. A radiant lamp in the ceiling would be a big help with that. My wife uses the exercise room daily, but she found that the exercise bikes and treadmill were in poor repair; basically inoperable. That was an unfortunate situation.

We enjoyed Portland and the hotel very much but travelzoo had not sent the $25 coupon to the hotel nor did we get a garden view.

The staff was excellent and the touch of having a place to have or get yourself a cup of coffee in the morning without needing to order room service or having to go to the restaurant was very nice.
