Housel Bay Hotel is close to Lizard Point, the most southerly point of the British mainland, and is next to the South West Coast Path, a spectacular coastal trail that attracts thousands of walkers every year. This stretch of coast has "dramatic cliff scenery, rare wildflowers and an interesting coastal history", according to the National Trust.

The wildflower-strewn cliffs provided the backdrop for the BBC's "Poldark", and also inspired author Rosamunde Pilcher's novels.

Poltesco is 15 minutes' drive away. The Poltesco Valley is notable for its ruined medieval mills, 17th-century pilchard cellars and 19th-century serpentine factory.

The picturesque harbour at Mullion Cove is approximately 20 minutes away by car, or it's a moderate 7-mile walk along the clifftops. If you're lucky, you will spot flocks of migrant warblers and swallows.

The restaurant sources local and seasonal ingredients. Rooms have countryside or ocean views. King Panoramic Rooms, the largest room type, also feature a bay window.

The rooms are tired and the furniture is of poor quality . The bed was comfortable however , and the bathroom , though old - fashioned, was clean . Food good but expensive .

The furnishing and decoration are looking a bit tired but we understand that new owners have recently taken over and have plans for refurbishment. The staff was very professional and friendly. We were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble. The location is stunning with probably the best views of the many hotels we have stayed in. Within a few metres were fabulous cliff walks and the possibility of seeing chuffs, seals and dolphins. Outstanding! Our room with a sea view was small but perfectly adequate and certainly up to an AA 3* standard. The food was exceptional. A limited menu but 5* quality. Maybe the food and drinks were a bit on the expensive side but not ridiculous. We will definitely go back. Loads more to see and do in the area.
