Overview

Compared to pricier hotels in Banff, this is a great wallet-friendly option for those looking to save money for the slopes or nearby attractions. Although it's an older building, the lodge has plenty of amenities -- there’s a 24-hour concierge, ski and snowboard storage and even same-day dry cleaning. Guests can take advantage of what their sister hotel has to offer as well. Located next door, Banff Park Lodge has an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, fitness centre and two on-site restaurants. Expect to pay for Wi-Fi and heated underground parking located at Banff Park Lodge, which is first-come, first-serve -- above-ground parking is free for all guests.

Rooms are small but clean with private balconies and patios; some showcasing views of the river. Larger Family Rooms have adjoining bedrooms with a shared bathroom, while the expansive River Suite has a rain shower and a sitting area with river views. Guests may find the decor a little dated; most rooms still have older-style televisions -- however, when it comes to Banff, the real show takes place outdoors.

It’s an ideal home base for summer or winter escapes -- with Lake Louise just a 40-minute drive away, it makes sightseeing day trips or ski excursions all the more tempting. Venture beyond Lake Louise to the Icefields Parkway, where you’ll find yourself on “easily one of the most awe-inspiring drives you'll ever encounter” (Frommer’s).

When the elevator was out of service it made it difficult getting to and from the room. I never could get my cards to work to the underground parkade

The food at the Italian restaurant at Park Lodge was very good. However there are no dining options at Bow Valley. Then they didn't seem to know about the $25 voucher. When I did get it, it was for $20. I then had to explain to the restaurant it was supposed to be $25, not $20. Good thing I had the original confirmation to show them. I went with my sister and we had a good time in the town of Banff. However, the staff don't seem to know a lot of things. We asked about the shuttle to the Sulphur Mountain gondola and were told to catch it at Park Lodge. We went there and were told to catch it at Elk Mountain Hotel. At Elk Mountain, we were told to catch a regular bus at the bus stop. Just always getting mis-information.

I was charged again for the room for the two nights. Good thing I brought my MC bill to show I already paid it. They then had to recharge my card with the new bill and then credit me for the original amount. Not really impressed. The walls were also thin and we heard people slamming doors and talking in the hallway. The hotel staff said "Travel Zoo" was making mistakes. Not sure I would go through Travel Zoo and would not stay at Bow View. Perhaps the Park Lodge but again, not sure I would book through Travel Zoo. How can I pay once and then get charged again? Annoying.

It was clean and adequate for the price. The pool and hot tub at sister hotel was excellent, as was the Crave restaurant.

The staff didn’t say we could park in underground parking. Didn’t mention the dining credit. We had to ask. Didn’t know what a charge on our bill was so just told us we would have to pay it.
