Martin’s Grand Hotel offers polished accommodation in the centre of Waterloo, a town with a “resonance far beyond its size” (Rough Guide). Set on a peaceful tree-lined street, the hotel is housed in a former sugar refinery dating from the 19th century, and is located a 5-minute drive from both Waterloo Battlefield, the site of Napoleon’s 1815 defeat, with its accompanying museums, and from the Wellington Museum, packed with period artefacts. The Royal Waterloo Golf Club is 10 minutes’ drive away, whilst Foundation Folon, dedicated to the renowned Belgian artist, and scenic Genval Lake, lined with turn-of-the-century villas, are both around 15 minutes’ drive from the hotel. Brussels city centre takes about 30 minutes to reach by car.
There’s a refined feel to Martin’s Grand Hotel’s interiors, which include a smart red-and-grey toned bar and a restaurant with a terrace, serving innovative takes on classic dishes beneath an 1836 vaulted brick ceiling. Other facilities include a fitness room and meeting space.
Guestrooms are decorated in a sophisticated style with green or red accent walls and light wood furnishings. All include free Wi-Fi, TVs, air-conditioning and mini bars, plus tea- and coffee-making facilities. Higher tariff rooms add extra space and sitting areas with sofas, and some come with kitchenettes. Room service is available.
