The Chiltern Open Air Museum, which has a collection of over 30 rescued and reconstructed historic buildings from the Chiltern Hills, and Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, home to The Making of Harry Potter, are both 20 minutes' drive away.

The riverside town of Windsor, famous for its castle, is 35 minutes' drive away. Originally built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle is still a royal residence today. Wembley Stadium is 45 minutes' drive away.

The Natural History Museum at Tring is 30 minutes' drive away and Woburn Safari Park, where visitors can drive through large enclosures that contain species such as white rhino, elephants, tigers and black bears, is a 45-minute drive away.

The hotel's Steam, Bake & Grill restaurant offers set-menu and buffet dining, using local produce.

Hotel overcharged by £50 and have stopped responding to my emails re a refund of over-charge, so I'm £50 down. Also, very poor dinner service (lack of attention, needing to repeatedly ask for condiments and drinks as it kept getting forgotten about, poor quality food (ravioli had no filling and tasted of tomato puree) and we had to wait literally 40mims for dessert. All-in all, a 3-course dinner took 3hours due to having to wait around for service and food. Extremely poor experience.

The reception was poor. They were not very informative and were unclear of the nature of my booking. The room was not the cleanest, the window was filthy and the seal was hanging off, the shower leaked, two of the three lamps did not work, one did not have a bulb. The 'restaurant' was more like a low market staff canteen- we had to get our own drinks from the bar, the food was old and not refreshed, with empty trays in the service area. The restaurant staff pretty much ignored us while they had their conversation. we had to clear our own table between courses. the pool was dirty, with slippery algae on the poolside. when we asked for the lamps to be fixed by phoning reception, at 22:10, nothing happened for twenty minutes resultinh in my going to reception where they were unaware of the reported problem. Ten minutes later, a member of staff entered our room without knocking to fix the lights. I would have given all of this feedback upon checkout, but there were no staff available.

Reception upon arriving was not welcoming, wrong room request (not a room with twin beds as requested), being interrogated and having to explain my movements both inside/outside of hotel by night shift duty manager, lights in upgraded room not working, 1 bed in upgraded room in poor condition, door lock quit working and could not access room (duty manager said this is a regular occurrence with this room) plus my fiancé was just out of shower and in towels during the attempted repair of this door and maintenance was asked to wait until after we checked out in an hour to repair-finally a manager had to be asked for us to be left alone in room so we could prepare for check-out thus making the late checkout almost useless for us, phone call from reception at 11:35 asking what time we planned to checkout (this along with wrong room assignment upon checking in indicated they didn't read any of the 'special request' or package deal that we had, wifi wouldn't connect, final bill was presented as £180 due even though the room upgrade had been paid for at check-in and room was already paid for by Travelzoo deal purchase, after relating all of this to the duty manager at checkout and him agreeing to refunding the room upgrade and relating this to his manager who would email me I was promised the £40 room upgrade refunded that day (yesterday) , but still no contact, or refund from the hotel has come through. There were 2 other guests making complaints as I was making mine, 1 woman had fallen in the shower due to lack of non-slip matt and her injury required the emergency services to glue her head wound back together. This hotel needs to be reevaluated for Travelzoo promotions as it has really dropped to unacceptable standards and is a danger to its guests. We didn't even notice no slip mats in bathtub until we spoke with the injured lady. I would also like compensation from Travelzoo for the inconveniences during this stay. The hotel said all they could do is refund the room upgrade as the voucher was originally purchased via your website and any refund further would have to come from Travelzoo. Can you please chase my £40 refund and Enquire why I have had no contact, refund or apology from the hotel? Deeply disappointed! I certainly don't recommend this hotel, would recommend that people do not stay there and almost felt like a second-class guest on the Travelzoo package. Thanks for your assistance & I look forward to receiving your response.

The food was actually quite good and the grounds are lovely.

The hotel requires attention to detail, windows need cleaning, the common areas need dusting, dead flies in the restaurant window sills. The radiator in our bedroom leaked, the bath and around the times required limescale remover, some of the limescale was pink that means germs are breeding. The service is poor. It was interesting to see that the clean towels, some in plastic and some not were left on the floor outside the room doors in the morning. They had minimal cleaning products and kit. The lack of attention to detail by staff was quite shocking - orders had to be repeated, they had to be reminded to bring the drinks ordered, they brought the wrong thing to the table, we had to ask for condiments and salt and pepper at dinner. This list goes on. It could be a wonderful place but De'vere seen to have dropped the ball at this venue. The bedrooms are tiny and dark, event Premier Inn has bigger rooms. It was a shame because the place has a lot of potential but it's uncared for.
