Located in Richmond's vibrant downtown, this hip hotel opened in June 2017 and is surrounded by quaint shops, restaurants and museums.
The collegiate and sports themes are more Wes Anderson than corner sports bar. Expect to see mid-century minimalist design with preppy plaid and schoolhouse accents. A collection of vintage, locally sourced art hangs from the walls of almost every area in the hotel. Cozy guest rooms feature side tables fashioned out of books, a framed over-the-bed print of the archetypical childhood dog (undoubtedly named Fido or Rover), along with subtle decor paying homage to the nearby Virginia Commonwealth University. Even room keys get the quirky treatment -- each is a re-creation of a student ID of famous folks associated with Richmond.
The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle around town, and the VCU campus is just a 10-minute walk away. Be sure to check out the lobby cafe Brookfield, available for drinks and three meals a day. The seasonal rooftop pool serves sports-themed cocktails and concession-stand faves with a twist.
