Next to the historic Central Library, Hilton Checkers Los Angeles has been a downtown mainstay for business travelers since the property opened in 1927 as the Mayflower Hotel. From the financial district hotel, guests are just eight blocks from Walt Disney Concert Hall, 10 blocks from the Lakers’ home court at the Staples Center and two blocks from the Pershing Square Metro station.
Downstairs, the hotel maintains its historic charm with two doormen ushering guests into an elegant lobby outfitted in antiques from the 1920s. The lobby bar takes on the appearance of a private club, with tufted leather chairs and a large plasma TV.
Guest rooms are furnished with plush bedding, flat-screen TVs and either one king bed or two double beds. Accommodations look out over downtown and include marble bathrooms, free Wi-Fi and spacious work stations. Upgrading to a suite adds luxuries like rainfall showerheads, separate living and seating areas to entertain and California king beds.
To achieve the perfect California suntan, guests need only to head to the hotel rooftop, where the pool deck overlooks offers chaise lounges, umbrellas, a hot tub and long lap pool. Guests also have access to a spa on this floor and a fitness center. Zagat praises on-site restaurant Checker’s Downtown as “a touch of cool elegance.” The restaurant serves California cuisine with French and Asian fusion and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Those attending a concert after dinner are treated to free town car service to the Music Center.
