Overview

Hever Hotel is in the Kent village of Hever -- known for its picturesque Tudor properties. The hotel is a 5-minute drive from the double-moated childhood home of Anne Boleyn, Hever Castle, which was built in the 13th century. Rich with Tudor artwork and furniture, it also has gardens, a lake, a woodland walk and a maze to explore.

The hotel is on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is full of nature reserves and hiking trails. Chartwell House, a National Trust property once belonging to Winston Churchill, is around 10 minutes' drive from the hotel. Hever Castle Golf Club, which has hosted PGA EuroPro Tour events, is next to the property.

The hotel has a main bar, an upstairs piano bar and a games room with a pool table. Breakfast and dinner are served in the Stables Restaurant, which has a rustic feel, with wooden beams and pillars. The hotel also has a gym, a tennis court and a games room.

Rooms have free Wi-Fi and views of the hotel's grounds.

The location was really lovely, as were the staff. The food in the restaurant was the saving grace of our stay.

Room was damp with mould in the closet. Poor shower pressure, the key aching was broken so we had to be let into our room by staff.

We enjoyed our stay but were allocated a disabled room, which, if it had been 2015, would have been perfect as I had had a hip replacement . At that time the hotel that we had arranged to stay in did not cater for people with disabilities, but, they did allow me plenty of time to recover in order that I did not lose the booking. The room at Hever Hotel had no carpet or rug so felt very cold and barren. The wardrobe/cupboard was specifically designed for a disabled person, presumably one sitting in a wheel chair so my clothes couldn't be hung up otherwise they would have been dragging on the floor. Having said that, the hotel was in a lovely position, and no other faults.....

Good things first. Staff were very helpful especially as the card key system to the rooms had failed and staff had to let everyone in every time they went to their rooms. Bad things: No usb point in the room so had to charge by plugging into the back of the tv. Mould around some of the tiles in the shower. Very narrow when standing in the shower; very awkward when turning around. Shower hose was falling apart. There was a generator outside our room that hummed all night long. Could not book a table for a meal after 19:00 so we had to go find a pub. Breakfast was like school dinner time. What is all the white stuff over the bacon? I don't like my breakfast swimming in grease which is what happens if you are serving yourself and most of the items have already gone and you are taking from the bottom.
