This elegant boutique hotel occupying three restored Victorian townhouses in central London manages to be, as The Guardian puts it, “traditional without being chintzy.” Expect period furniture, original oil paintings and views over some of the city’s more leafy neighborhoods.

Rooms and suites in this tasteful haven amid the bustle have handmade wooden beds -- including four-posters -- mahogany furniture with silk details, and limestone-clad bathrooms. Wi-Fi is free, complimentary cookies and mineral water are provided at turndown, and there are DVD players available on request. Upgrade to a Four Poster Suite for a separate sitting room and one of those fabulous beds. Breakfast is served in a cozy breakfast room, or guests can take it in bed at no extra charge.

Warm touches elsewhere in the hotel include welcome drinks on arrival, decanters of whisky and sherry by at the honesty bar in the lounge, keys rather than swipe cards and drawing rooms with open fires. In-room treatments on offer include manicures, pedicures and body scrubs, plus there’s personal training available by the hour.

The hotel has a small on-site restaurant serving breakfast and a set menu at lunch and dinner. There’s also a huge choice of eateries nearby. To partake in a truly English tradition, try the afternoon tea with a twist -- tiers of scones and jam, macaroons, or fig and rosemary shortbread come served individually with flutes of Taittinger Champagne.

To work off such treats, guests can go running in nearby Hyde Park, one of London’s biggest green spaces, or visit the nearby Nuffield Health fitness center (charges apply). Also close by are the Royal Albert Hall for concerts; Oxford Street, Park Lane and High Street Kensington for shopping; and Portobello Road, with one of the world’s best street markets.

The location wasn't the greatest for tourist to London. Also, upon checking in, when the hotel saw I had booked through TravelZoo, they treated us like third class passengers. I've always loved booking through travelzoo but this was not a hit it was a miss. The hotel was not sold out, yet no way we're they going to upgrade our room.. Instead we got a room facing a dirty alley and a bed that was so incredibly uncomfortable it was miserable.
