Occupying the grand former premises of The Scotsman newspaper, this hotel is packed with history.
Its location is superb; minutes from Waverley Station and right between Edinburgh's old and new towns. Inside, the hotel is luxurious in a warm, comfortable and unflashy Scottish way. Careful restoration of the Edwardian building has retained the beautiful oak panelling and marble pillars.
The high-ceilinged Grand Cafe offers an extensive all-day menu, plus brunch, afternoon tea, bar snacks, cocktails and whiskies in a relaxed environment.
The 69 rooms and suites all come in different sizes, shapes and designs, each giving a subtle nod to the building's former use, while the views are some of the best in the city. The bathrooms are marble lined, plus there are dumbwaiters and privacy shutters that allow you to order in-room breakfast without encountering staff. Guests receive a complimentary copy of The Scotsman newspaper each day and Wi-Fi is free.
