Overview

This hotel is housed in a 19th-century manor trimmed with cedar gingerbread, and is a short walk along the river to all Niagara Falls has to offer. The Maid of the Mist boat tour is an 18-minute walk away, and Casino Niagara is a less than a five-minute drive from the property.

The garden terrace can be enjoyed seasonally, or guests can curl up with a book in the living room. Guestrooms are decorated with antique-looking furniture, but have modern amenities like free W-Fi, air conditioning and flat-screen TVs. Some have gas fireplaces to direct access to the garden patio. A hot breakfast is included with the rooms and is made-to-order; guests can choose from the menu the night before and enjoy it in the sunlit dining room each morning. Parking is free, something that comes at a premium in Niagara Falls and is hard to come by.

Upon arrival we were escorted to our room which was two flights up scaffolding with plywood walkways - I was unable to navigate the climb due to my fear of heights, and general distrust of what looked like shoddy construction equipment. We were then given a ground floor room with no view. One does not arrive expecting to climb scaffolding to enter accommodations. On both mornings, we had the pleasure of waking up to heavy machinery operating DIRECTLY outside our suite, as there are currently ongoing renovations taking place on the building. At no time were we made aware of this when booking. Day one was excavation of the foundation at 7:30am, and day two was pressure washing and generators, shouting and banging beginning at 8:20am. When we complained about the noise, the owner said he'd adjust our bill, which he credited for one bottle of wine at $16.95 - unacceptable. The gas fireplace in our room wouldn't turn on, and the "gentleman" who came to assist used more "f bombs" than I could count. Once "repaired", the heat wouldn't turn down, so we had to leave our windows and door open to try to keep cool. The toilet also leaked all over the bathroom floor non-stop, and do not plan on having an enjoyable shower - you get a combo of ice cold, and fiery hot at random intervals.

Booked a king balcony but was given a lower level room that had a running bath tap and humming air conditioner. They moved us to a king balcony once we complained. Voucher came with a bottle of wine, which we had to ask for, seven wine tasting but they only gave us three vouchers and a $75 Skylon dinner voucher which again we had to ask for. There is a lot of construction on the property going on as well.

There is one thing that was misleading is that when I booked it said $75 off for the Skylon Tower dining, but when I checked in I was given only a $40 off voucher. Which I thought Travelzoo should know.

I wish I had know that there was construction and renovation going on. Our room was on the 3rd floor and the temprory stairs to go up were scary. My husband is 75 and coming back to the room at night was unsteady and scary.

The hotel was shabby .. I was extremely disappointed about the meal voucher that was included in the package. the details said a $75 dining credit for the Sklylon. The only things that they honored were the parking and ride to the top (which are included for any diners) We were unable to even use the $40 dollars that were supposedly for the meal. I feel I was deceived and misled. I never would have gone to the over priced tourist trap if I knew could not have used the voucher.
