The architects behind the newly opened Godfrey Hotel Boston converted two adjacent early 20th century buildings in Boston’s Downtown Crossing (one of the country's oldest neighborhoods) into the stylish boutique hotel. The designers went to great lengths to preserve the prewar brick and stone façade of the six-story Amory Building and the white terracotta exterior of its neighboring 11-story Blake Building.
Officially opened in February 2016 after a soft opening the month before, the 4-star property made a grand entrance to the city’s hotel scene with 16-foot ceiling and sculptural walls within the dramatic lobby and a monochromatic palette broken up by bright details.
Rooms feature a more minimalist design with mid-century modern décor that sharply contrasts the building’s old-world exterior. Accommodations are equipped with free Wi-Fi and contemporary luxuries like high-end linens, oversized flat-screen televisions, Heeley toiletries, Keurig coffeemakers and Bose stereos. While there is no spa on site, guests can order in-room treatments, and the fitness center is open 24 hours a day.
Next to the lobby, George Howell Coffee offers coffee tastings at its bar, perfect for an energy boost before hopping on one of the property’s complimentary bikes. From the hotel, guests can reach Boston Common in five minutes by foot and the New England Aquarium is a 15-minute walk. The Downtown Crossing T station is less than a block from the hotel.
