Overview
Design is at the forefront of the stylish New Hotel, with eco-friendly décor that combines contemporary art with quirky custom-made furniture and local handicrafts, while still retaining the occasional nod to its history as the former Olympic Palace Hotel, where socialites schmoozed in the 1960s.
The hotel is 200 metres from Constitution Square and 10 minutes' walk from the Hellenic Parliament and National Gardens. The city's main attractions, including the historic Plaka neighbourhood, the Acropolis and Syntagma Square, are all within walking distance. "New Hotel is the ideal choice for any sight-seeing weekenders", according to Harper's Bazaar.
The Acropolis is a 20-minute walk away, and trendy Monastiraki is a stroll down the road, where you'll find independent boutiques, art-strewn streets, artisan coffee houses aplenty and the latest hipster haunts by night.
Hotel facilities include an all-day bar and restaurant, 24-hour room service and a fitness centre, a steam room, a Jacuzzi and a massage room (treatments cost extra). The New Taste restaurant serves a buffet breakfast, lunch and an à la carte dinner of Mediterranean fare using local organic products, with a takeaway option, too.
Rooms are bright and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows, bamboo furniture and off-beat furnishings. Suites and Studios offer separate living areas, but even the Standard Rooms offer a generous 20-23 square metres of living space. A few rooms on the upper floors overlook the National Gardens, or you can admire the Athenian skyline from the rooftop lounge. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
