Lace Market Hotel occupies a Georgian townhouse on a cobbled street in Nottingham's trendy Lace Market. It reopened in October, 2015, after an extensive refurbishment of the bedrooms, restaurant and bar, and is now an "oasis of affordable luxury with the added bonus of truly amazing staff", according to The Derby Telegraph.

The Merchants Restaurant serves modern British dishes and afternoon tea. It's open daily for breakfast and lunch, and Monday-Saturday for dinner. For classic pub grub, head to the Cock & Hoop Pub, open daily. The Saint Bar has a marble counter and a team of mixologists creating an eclectic range of cocktails.

Bedrooms range from Single Rooms to Studio Suites; all have contemporary décor and free Wi-Fi.

As for Nottingham, it's not just Robin Hood that puts it on the tourist map -- in 2015 it was officially declared a UNESCO City of Literature thanks to the likes of DH Lawrence, Lord Byron and Alan Sillitoe. Download the Sillitoe Trail app and explore the five locations from the novel Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, including the Old Market Square, The White Horse, the Raleigh factory, the River Trent and the Goose Fair.

Other city highlights include Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery, both a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and the Galleries of Justice Museum, which is opposite the Lace Market hotel. Notice the 19th-century industrial architecture throughout the Lace Market district from the period when Nottingham was the world leader in lace making.

No problems with the hotel but they were completely unaware regarding the rum cocktail. I had to show the email and then ask three other members of staff, it became a little embarrassing. Also they were totally unaware regarding early check in or late check out so we didn't receive this. We also didn't receive an upgrade as again they were not aware and had already allocated the room and to be fair it was all a little uncomfortable. A little disappointed as it's the first time I have booked with travel zoo and liked there were extras so would have liked them. We did get the cocktails but a lot more difficult than It should have been.
