The city of Bergen is surrounded by mountains and is considered to be the gateway to the fjords. The First Hotel Marin is in Bryggen, just set back from the historic harbourside, which is lined with colourful wooden houses and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city centre is compact and much of it can be explored on foot, though there is a good public transport system for exploring further afield.
The popular Floibanen Funicular, which travels up Mount Floyen, is just 180 metres from the hotel. At the summit you'll find superb hiking opportunities and magnificent views of the city.
There are numerous bars and eateries close to the hotel, and the hotel's own restaurant, the Beyer'en, offers classic Norwegian and international dishes in a contemporary setting with plenty of exposed brickwork and wooden floors. The Beyer'en Bar serves drinks, sandwiches, burgers and salads.
Leisure facilities include a gym, a sauna and steambaths. There are 151 rooms and suites at the First Hotel Marin. Some rooms have harbour views, and the Executive Suite has a Jacuzzi, a sauna and a balcony. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
