Overview

Anglesey is home to "hidden beaches, chocolate-box villages and Wales's greatest concentration of ancient sites", says Lonely Planet. Trecastell Hotel is in the village of Amlwch, on the north coast of Wales's largest island, and has panoramic views of Bull Bay, a sheltered rocky cove overlooking the Irish Sea.

The hotel, which dates back to the 1920s, is a 5-minute drive from Amlwch Port, which has a heritage centre dedicated to the area's copper-mining past, and a 10-minute drive from Llanbadrig Church, said to have been founded in the fifth century by St Patrick. Beaumaris Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a 35-minute drive away. Make sure you walk along its inner wall for the best views of its layout and the surrounding scenery.

Anglesey has some cracking hiking trails. The Beaumaris-to-Holyhead section of the Anglesey Coastal Path is the star attraction -- you can join it on Bull Bay Road, directly outside the hotel. Trearddur Bay -- a sandy Blue Flag beach -- is half an hour's drive away.

Trecastell Hotel has a restaurant with views of Bull Bay, and a bar and a lounge.  With Double Sea View Rooms, some have a full sea view and three have a partial sea view. The rooms with the best views are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. King Sea View Rooms are more spacious and all have a full sea view. Wi-Fi is free.

Bull Bay Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course, a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Travelzoo guests can play a round here for £15 per person (the usual rate is £22 per person, per round).

All staff were great, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The location has fantastic views of Bull Bay. Breakfast and evening meals were very good.

Very comfortable room with a superb view. Staff all very friendly and polite. Good choice of food on the menu, the crab salad was delicious so much so it was off the menu on our second night! Would recommend this hotel for a peaceful and very p,easy to break. We will be back for our 4th visit we hope.

The breakfast at hotel was disappointing, particularly after eating a very good meal in the restaurant the previous evening. Overcooked bacon, and thin sliced bread for toast.

The hotel is in a good position for walking coastal path.

Room was lovely overlooking the sea. Breakfast was very substantial and tasty. Bar/resturaunt food was poor. Homemade curry was dry nan was cold and mass produced. additional chips were frozen and very poor quality. Salad swimming in balsamic vinegar. So enjoy the stay with breakfast but eat elsewhere

Fabulous view from our room (5) which was huge, especially the bed - so comfy. The en-suite which looked newly completed was one of the best we’ve come across in whatever type of establishment we’ve stayed in. Al in all really nice break .
