Hotel Brunelleschi is a characterful boutique hotel in the heart of Florence. Set in a small piazza two minutes' walk from the Duomo (Florence's cathedral), the hotel "couldn’t be more secluded and more central", says Condé Nast Johansens, who featured the property in their 2016 awards.
Many of the city's Renaissance sights, such as the Medici chapels, the Uffizi Galleries and the Accademia (home to Michelangelo's David), are within a 10-minute walk. The Ponte Vecchio, a medieval bridge lined with shops over the Arno River, is less than 10 minutes' stroll away.
The hotel has an on-site museum, where you can learn more about its history -- it was built around a 6th-century tower, which once served as a women's prison, and a Roman caldarium was discovered beneath the property during the restoration in 1980. Parts of the medieval walls remain, but much of the interior is very modern, with chandeliers, wooden floors and chunky mirrors. The restaurant serves classic Tuscan dishes, and in summer you can dine al fresco on the courtyard terrace. There's a small gym with treadmills and free weights.
Bedrooms have air conditioning, soundproof windows and free Wi-Fi.
