Relais Villa Petrischio
Why We Love This Hotel
- The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, a terrace and a restaurant that overlooks the Tuscan countryside
- Cortona, where "Under the Tuscan Sun" was filmed, is just 20 minutes' drive, and Florence is an hour away
- Arezzo and Lago Trasimeno, Italy's fourth-largest lake, are 30 minutes' drive away
Set in three acres of mature cypress and pine trees, Relais Villa Petrischio offers a peaceful retreat in the Tuscan countryside. It is a 20-minute drive from hilltop Cortona, the picturesque town where parts of "Under the Tuscan Sun" were filmed. The town's Museo Diocesano houses a collection of religious artworks and a Roman sarcophagus dating from the second century AD.
There are plenty of opportunities for exploring the hotel's rural surroundings -- nearby equestrian centers can arrange excursions on horseback, and the area is also popular with walkers and cyclists. Lago Trasimeno, Italy's fourth-largest lake, and Arezzo, the province's capital city, are both around 30 minutes' drive from the hotel. Florence is an hour's drive away.
The main part of the hotel was built in the 18th century, and its elevated position affords far-reaching countryside vistas. On-site facilities include an outdoor swimming pool (open May-September) and the poolside La Terrazza Restaurant. The restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the views, and serves a menu of regional dishes using fresh local ingredients. Guests can enjoy a drink and local meats and cheeses at the bar, which overlooks hills and olive groves.
The 18 bedrooms have views of the grounds and the swimming pool. Some Junior Suites have a fireplace.
