Overview

In 2016, Boston Park Plaza underwent a $100 million to refurbishment -- the result was a modern and refined landmark in one of the country’s oldest cities. Built in 1927, the property has hosted a lot of prominent guests, from many U.S. presidents to Katherine Hepburn and Judy Garland.

Rooms vary in size but are on the smaller side. Decorated in charcoal and caramel tones, all rooms feature Keurig coffee makers, bedside USB charging ports and 100% blackout shades. Most rooms are dog-friendly (call the hotel for more details).

Room service is also available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are three restaurants on site: Off the Common, STRIP by Strega and M.J. O’Connor’s. Start your morning with Starbucks, located just off the lobby and open as early as 5:30 a.m., seven days a week.

Guests can enjoy access to an upscale fitness center, which offers 20,000 square feet of space with the latest cardio and strength training equipment. The gym also features Boston’s first Topgolf Swing Suite for year-round practice and PGA-certified instruction.

This 4-star property is located in a prime spot for sightseeing. Guests can stroll about five minutes to the southern edge of Boston Common or head five minutes in the other direction to reach Newbury Street and its big-brand stores or the performing arts center. The Arlington T-stop is a one-minute walk from the hotel, making it easy to explore other parts of the city, such as Cambridge.

I love the hotel. The staff is so helpful and friendly. If I could change one thing it would be the choice of music in the lobby. Maybe during the day, you could play something more relaxing. It feels like a club, even when I'm eating breakfast.

This was our second stay here. We like the location very much. The lobby is great and there is a Starbucks for morning coffee. The rooms are fairly spacious. The only drawback is that the bathroom is ridiculously small.

When we arrived at our room, the safe did not work so we called security to have it looked at. No one came after 30 minutes. We called again - this time to the front desk - and someone came up in about 10 minutes. When the staff member entered our room she saw a bottle of alcohol on the desk and commented, "I should take that and dump it, but I am being nice." Since the desk was on the far side of the room from the safe, we were very shocked she had scoured the room that quickly to look around at our belongings. We were not made aware of any hotel policies against alcohol in the room and furthermore it was an unopened bottle that we purchased to take back to Canada. We felt very nervous and insulted and wondered if staff would enter our room when we were out to examine other items that they might deem to be against policies. Thoroughly unnerving. I did not sleep well at all worrying about the situation. When we returned to Canada I received a text from someone at the hotel asking how our room was. They obviously sent this after check-in, but I was not receiving text messages as my international roaming was turned off. I find this a very odd way to communicate with guests who may or may not have mobile phone plans for the US. Quite arrogant to assume every guest can communicate via text like Americans. I replied and told the person our story above. They did apologize for the way the guard acted, but advised us, “Our liquor license does not allow guests to bring in outside alcohol and drink it, which is an exclusive Massachusetts law that is not common in other states.” We have searched online and have found nothing about this law. Furthermore, it was not communicated to us from Travelzoo or the hotel during the reservation or check-in process. There was no notice in the rooms - which were equipped with refrigerators and ice buckets and ice was available just down the hall. Regardless of the alleged law, we were not treated with common courtesy and it completely ruined our stay.

No, the hotel itself was just fine. A little slow in valet parking when checking in.

The parking, taxes, and resort fee added about $200 to the room fees. Just too many hidden costs for my liking.

Beautiful lobby. Tiny room, but comfy. The floors were not cleaned in bathroom. I wish the breakfast buffet and/or valet parking was included in price. A little ridiculous to have to pay $60 to park and $27 per person for a breakfast buffet that was sub par. Other than that, it was a good experience.

was forced to cancel reservation 2 days in advance. Neither the Park Plaza nor Travelzoo would give any kind of refund since terms were 3 days. I see on the hotels website that terms are 24 hours. Because of this I feel scammed and will never book through travelzoo again after booking many trips in the past. Shame on you

The rooms and commons areas were clean and tidy. The property has fine dining options as well as casual food. We parked our own car and it was easy and a wee bit cheaper than valet.
