Map & Directions

About a half-hour southeast of Wilkes-Barre, the resort is a 2-hour drive north of Philadelphia and 2.5 hours west of New York City. The water park and activities are in the resort's main building, which is less than half a mile from the two-bedroom units, less than a quarter mile from the Lodge Rooms, and adjacent to the one-bedroom units.

There are 1,200 acres to work with at Split Rock Resort, spread amid the woods on a Poconos lake that's miles from anywhere. But don't worry -- there are enough activities to fill the most active of itineraries.

The obvious front-runner is the water park, more than 50,000 square feet of slips, slides, splashes and kids. Adults can retreat to a 27-hole golf course or racquetball and bocce courts. Families can settle into the movie theater or knock pins at the bowling alley.

Travelzoo members who've stayed previously frequently credit the impressive spread of activities, which keep them out and about rather than in rooms that are looking a little timeworn. The hotel has upgraded several spaces, and continues to cover more ground month by month, but carpets and upholstery have understandably worn down as guests bounce between the water park and mini-golf course.

The staff is a consistent bright spot, however, and Travelzoo members note a friendliness and warmth that covers most of the stay. Be warned though each activity typically has a fee, and there's a 19% service fee charged on top of room rate.

The swim park was great. Also enjoyed bowling and arcade.

We did have a problem at check-in. Resort tried to charge me for 2 of the 4 swim park tickets. I had to get a manager and show my Travelzoo paperwork which proved I booked the room for 4 people for 4 tickets. Later found out the person who entered reservation at resort put it in the system as 2 people. We later had a problem when we went to get our room. When we got to the room we only had 1 bed and we needed two for 4 people. So went back down to lobby and talked to another manager and had to move again into a room with 2 beds which is what my Travelzoo reservation proved when I showed it.

It was good, but some of the staff could be a bit friendlier, particularly the manager at front desk who answers the phone. Makes you feel like you are bothering her.

Understand it's a ski environment which = cold. However, bar and seating area are near the doors and the entire area is freezing with all the coming and going. Figure something out. Situate more heaters.

The whole resort had so many things to do.

The rooms in the lodge need some updating, and a little table for the fridge to sit on instead of the floor because it makes it hard to open the door.

The facility and the activities are fabulous. The staff is really great and welcoming. My grandchildren has a wonderful time with so many activities on the property. The movies came with popcorn and it was a current movie that my grandchildren had not seen so that was fun. The special activities kept us busy and my grandchildren even loved playing Jeopardy. They give good prizes for the games such as free ice cream cones so that really made my grandchildren happy.

I was not impressed with our room, it is a nice ski type lodge however it needs some updating on the slope side rooms.
