The family-run Beech Hill Country House Hotel occupies a Georgian property built in 1729, and is set in woodland filled with ponds and waterfalls. Among the hotel's previous guests are A-list celebrities and politicians including Bill Clinton, Will Ferrell, Jude Law and Tommy Hilfiger.

Used as a base by the US Marines in World War II, the hotel has a World War II archive and a memorial to the Marine Corps.

There's a lot to explore in the local area -- Londonderry, which is described as a "artistic and cultural hub", with a "splendid riverside setting", is less than 10 minutes' drive. The River Foyle, which has excellent fishing and some of the best oyster beds in the UK, is 20 minutes' drive away. It's also an excellent wildlife-spotting destination -- you might see dolphins and seals, or huge flocks of migrating birds.

The Sperrin Mountains -- Northern Ireland's largest mountain range, with undulating hills, quiet valleys, boggy uplands and richly diverse wildlife -- are a 35-minute drive away. The Giant's Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just over an hour's drive away.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the hotel's "imposing 1729 building, surrounded by the beech trees that gave it its name, has all the grace and exquisite proportions you associate with the Georgian era". Heritage Rooms have antique furnishings, and some have views of the garden. Superior Rooms are in the original house or the modern wing, and have garden views.

The Ardmore Restaurant sources local products from nearby farms and local fishermen. Vegetables and herbs are gathered daily from the hotel's garden.

Golfing, horse riding, hill walking and other activities can be arranged by the hotel for a supplement.

Lovely setting and very helpful front of house staff.. Well Done ! The "local" breakfast waitress on Monday 15th Jan was a brilliant ambassador for the venue and the county.

We have stayed in many alternative accommodations some 2 & 3 star and the room facilities were much better. ( we couldn't darken the room for sleep due to the light coming in around the sides of the door. ( room 30 ) If it had been a busy time this would also have allowed noise to disturb us. There was no hair drier in the room or biscuits with the tea & coffee. Toiletries presented were minimal to say the least. As for breakfast, you will have a much better cooked breakfast at Weatherpersons for £2.65 currently. This was the meanest hot breakfast I have had anywhere in many years. This is Ireland after all. The toaster didn't do its job first time and needed a second circuit but the staff were just accepting this as they cooked their own toast. There was a conveyor speed setting !!! on the machine which I adjusted myself to correct the result. I feel this lack of awareness so sad in the hospitality sector. ( ps I worked in it for 30 + years )

This is our fourth year in a row staying at the Beech Hill. It is a beautiful 18th century manor house with beautiful grounds to walk around. They have lovely modern rooms in the new wing of the hotel but for real charm and character staying in the old original part of the house is a must. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
