Overview

The family-run Beech Hill Country House Hotel occupies a Georgian property built in 1729, and is set in woodland filled with ponds and waterfalls. The hotel is frequented by A-list celebrities and politicians including Bill Clinton, Will Ferrell, Jude Law and Tommy Hilfiger.

Used as a base by the US Marines in World War II, the hotel has a World War II archive and a memorial to the Marine Corps.

The hotel is a great base from which to explore Londonderry. The River Foyle is 20 minutes' drive away and is an excellent wildlife-spotting destination -- you might see dolphins and seals, or huge flocks of migrating birds. It also has excellent fishing and some of the best oyster beds in the UK.

The Sperrin Mountains -- Northern Ireland's largest mountain range, with undulating hills, quiet valleys, boggy uplands and richly diverse wildlife -- are a 35-minute drive away. The Giant's Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just over an hour's drive away.

The Ardmore Restaurant sources local products from nearby farms and local fishermen. Vegetables and herbs are gathered daily from the hotel's garden.

Heritage Rooms have antique furnishings, and some have views of the garden. Superior Rooms are in the original house or the modern wing, and have garden views.

Golfing, horse riding, hill walking and other activities can be arranged by the hotel for a supplement.

Brenda and Ashleigh looked after us very well including a quick view of the original family chapel and the suite in which President Clinton has stayed. He has been there four times in total to date. Treat yourself to a stay.

We enjoyed our stay in the Beech Hill Country House Hotel in its delightful wooded setting, that gave ample scope for walks along the trails in the grounds.
Other Comments
The hotel was small enough to give guests more personal attention. All staff we encountered were exceptionally helpful and pleasant. The rooms in the new extension were very pleasant whilst the rooms in the main house were more individual.
