"An ideal summer stay for families," raves Frommer's, the Arizona Grand Resort is a AAA 4-Diamond desert property with activities for everyone. This expansive, all-suite hotel sits at the base of the South Mountain Preserve, a 10-minute drive from Phoenix.

The resort's on-site Oasis Water Park covers seven acres, and is one of the largest water parks in the United States. It is ideal for families, with a wave pool, three waterslides and a tubing river. Other property highlights include a challenging golf course (named one of the best places to play by Golf Digest), six restaurants and a fitness center and spa, where more than 45 weekly classes including Zumba and yoga are available. There's also a 20,000-square-foot athletics club on site, plus the neighboring nature reserve has more than 60 miles of hiking and biking trails.

All suites are spacious and include a private terrace and a mini or full kitchen. Most are spread across two rooms, with a separate living area and have oversized bathtubs. The views are over the golf course or the South Mountain Preserve. Villa Suites and guestrooms can be connected to create a two-bedroom apartment for families.

There's a daily resort fee of $50 per room plus tax, payable at the hotel. This provides access to the seasonal Oasis Water Park.

Venture through the Valley of the Sun with packages from top golf courses, Travel + Leisure-praised spas and swanky dining experiences.

The room upgrade was available but they wanted to charged me $20 until I showed them the email from travel zoo. Also the late checkouts were available because they offered to us before they knew about the Travelzoo benefit but they would not honor the Travelzoo benefit. They offered us late checkout at $20 for 1:00 and an extra $40 for a 4:00pm checkout. They said that Travelzoo didnt have the right to offer these amenities to us. Was not happy with front desk service overall. To begin with their systems were down when we wanted to check in and we got a is a "So sad too bad" attitude. I had to make the suggestion that they call us when the systems we available again. Rooms are only ok, they say they are renovating rooms but all they are doing is bringing them up to standard. Painting and fixing air conditioning is all that we noticed. The last time we stayed the air conditioner in two rooms they put us in were not functioning. Only reason we still go is for the water park.

There was trash still in the trash can in the room the phone in the room didn't work. I had to switch rooms because I needed a phone that worked. They offered me an upgrade for an extra amount of money. Which I thought was included in my booking. The new room we went to had a wade of use napkins in the bushes on the balcony.

The water park was great for kids, but everything at the resort is ridiculously overpriced, including the $50.00 resort fee. The pool side restaurant charged $23.00 for chicken tenders and fries and $11.00 for a corn dog and the main restaurant charged $17.00 for a waffle! Overall the staff was helpful, especially Jason at the Lobby Grill.

Breakfast in the lobby grill was good but rushed because of No late check out.

The room I was given was smaller than what was booked. Told me I was in the nicest building but room was small and did not have a separate bedroom. Just one studio style room. Also did not honor my late check out. Left me very disappointed. Did not get the impression that they cared either.

$40 for extra wrist band was out of line. Food was very expensive at water park, like Ritz Carlton price for snack bar food.
