Why We Love It

  • This "charming" (The AA) country-house hotel retains many original features
  • It sits in landscaped grounds and has views across the Cotswold countryside
  • There's a luxury spa and a 2-AA-Rosette restaurant that serves "imaginative cuisine" (The AA)
  • The picturesque market towns of Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Norton are both less than 20 minutes' drive

Overview

A member of the Classic British Hotels collection, Wyck Hill House Hotel & Spa is a 4-star property that has an award-winning restaurant, a sumptuous spa and a heated cigar terrace. Behind the Cotswold stone exterior, its period features include an oak-panelled library, a grand staircase, open log fires and an impressive front hall.

The hotel is "ideally positioned", according to The AA, five minutes' drive from Stow-on-the-Wold. This ancient town has a historic market square and a Grade I-listed Norman-era church, and is known for its antique shops. It also holds a farmers' market on the second Thursday of each month. The market towns of Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Norton are less than 20 minutes' drive of the hotel, and Cheltenham Racecourse, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon are all within 50 minutes' drive.

The hotel's "excellent" (The Daily Telegraph) conservatory restaurant has views of the estate and holds two AA Rosettes for its modern British food. There's also a cosy bar and several public lounge areas. The spa has six therapy rooms and an extensive treatment menu. The hotel's 55 bedrooms are in the main house, the Orangery and the coach house, and are all generous in size. Wi-Fi is free although signal can be limited in some parts of the hotel.

Friendly and helpful staff. We felt the hotel rooms were looking a bit tired and in need of a coat paint. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.

Checking in was troublesome. Room not ready. Lift not in use and not many staff available to help we waited until 4 o’clock before we could get into our room. Not the usual experience we have had. Always before staff were helpful on reception. Food again was excellent and restaurant service very good.

The Oldie Worldie building and grounds ans the quality of the food both for the evening meal and the breakfast.
Other Comments
Nearly great, but only very good. Receptionists were great, but had to wait 15 minutes to get a drink in the bar and the majority of the bar tables were full of used coffee and tea pots etc and had not been cleared for some time. Restaurant staff nice, but a bit of over kill with topping wine after virtually every mouthful. Just a bit intrusive. Several area's where things such as carpet needed attention Tatty here and there which I didn't expect. My wife used the spa and enjoyed the full body massage and friendly informative staff.
