Overview

The 12th-century Westleton Crown is in the Suffolk village of Westleton, within the Yox Valley. Inside this "charming" (The AA Hotel Guide 2017) hideaway you'll find cosy nooks where you can leaf through the hotel's books, and a huge map on the wall for planning local walks. Expect wood burners, beamed ceilings, exposed brickwork and rustic furnishings.

You can dine in the 2-AA-Rosette restaurant or in the traditional bar. The kitchen uses produce from local butchers and fishermen, and the chefs bake fresh bread every morning. The hotel also holds an AA Notable Wine List 2016-2017 accolade for its diverse selection of high-quality wines.

Best Rooms have roll-top baths big enough for two people, duck-down duvets and free Wi-Fi. Dogs are welcome for £7.50 per night, and are given biscuits and a blanket on arrival.

The 2.7-mile walk from The Westleton Crown to The Ship at Dunwich takes you through Westleton Heath National Nature Reserve, which is covered in swathes of pink heather. Minsmere -- owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds -- is less than 10 minutes' drive away, and you can cycle along the nature trails through woodland or navigate the coastal lagoons on foot.

Southwold is less than 20 minutes' drive away, and it is home to a bustling harbour, a lighthouse and the Southwold Sailor's Reading Room -- a small maritime museum. Aldeburgh is also 20 minutes' drive from The Westleton Crown, and is famed for being the home of composer Benjamin Britten. Visit The Red House where he lived and worked, or walk along the shingle beach to see the pastel-coloured houses on the promenade.

Care for dogs. The only thing we did not like was thin hard cooked bacon both days.

It was a very good location for some interesting places to visit.
Other Comments
We do not have a dog and just wondered if they have any bedrooms where dogs are not allowed at any time. This would be good for us and probably make us more inclined to go back.

Missed having a proper shower , the bath was quite difficult to get in and out of. Dust on the bed head and the breakfast was just ok.

Only one vegetarian option on the menu which had run out :( Had to have a larger salad. Come on, where's the nut roast?

We liked its location and we enjoyed a good breakfast when the service was considerably better.
Other Comments
The service for our evening meal was dreadful. We had to go up to the counter after sitting for twenty minutes to ask if we could even order at least a drink despite a male staff member bringing us two starters whilst we still had our menus on the table....and telling him we were waiting to order. Then we had to wait an hour for our roasts which were jumbled plate fulls of food consisting of far too many elements, many of which were unidentifiable.
