Room Mate Larios Hotel
Why We Love This Hotel
- Central location at the top end of Calle Larios, Malaga’s most important shopping street
- Easy access to restaurants, bars & the city’s main historical & cultural attractions
- Rooms are decorated in ‘modern Art Deco’ style
- Despite its busy location, guests report that street noise is kept to a minimum
Once ‘just’ the gateway to the Costa del Sol, Malaga has become an attractive destination in itself -- and the 4-star Room Mate Larios is a central base from which to explore it.
The hotel sits at the top of Calle Larios, Malaga’s main shopping street, so retail therapy and tapas stops are taken care of. There’s also plenty of history and culture nearby -- the cathedral is just three minutes’ walk from the hotel, the fortified palace of the Alcazaba only a little further. Gibralfaro Castle sits above the city, a 33-minute uphill walk or a 20-minute bus trip (number 35). And Malaga’s Picasso museum, five minutes’ walk from the hotel, has an extensive collection of works by one of the city’s favourite sons.
There’s no restaurant as such -- when you’re this close to Calle Larios you don’t really need one. A coffee shop serves breakfast, light bites and drinks until early afternoon (siesta time), a buzzy 1st-floor bar gives the hotel a little more atmosphere and there’s a rooftop bar in summer.
The rooms have a ‘modern Art Deco’ feel and offer free Wi-Fi and satellite TV -- despite the hotel’s busy, central location, guests say sound-proofing is generally good and street noise isn’t a significant problem. Upgrade for more space -- Junior Suites feature separate seating areas. Apartments with living rooms and fully equipped kitchens are also available -- these are in a separate building a short distance away.
