Location is the main draw here -- Copthorne Hotel sits right next to Sheffield United’s football stadium, Bramall Lane, and is also within easy reach of the city centre and the Peak District National Park.
Once a by-word for industrial decline, today the rapidly rejuvenating city has plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs to offer visitors. History buffs can still explore the past, though -- check out the Millennium Gallery (a 15-minute walk from the hotel), or Kelham Island Museum (a 10-minute drive). Further afield, the Peak District offers walking, climbing and caving, as well as Chatsworth House (the grandmother of all British stately homes) and Peveril Castle, both around 40 minutes’ drive away.
The hotel’s 18fifty5 Restaurant holds an AA Rosette and offers Modern European cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients. Look for crab risotto with ginger and pink grapefruit, or Moroccan-marinated lamb with aubergine and red onion compôte. Not your style? The contemporary 1855 Bar serves gastropub favourites alongside a long list of cocktails and Champagnes. Children are well catered for too, with a kids’ menu and (for a fee of £10.99) a teddy bear, a fun pack and ice cream on arrival. Free facilities include a fitness room and free WiFi throughout.
The 158 contemporary rooms all have flat-screen satellite television and pay-per-view movies. Club Rooms have extras such as minibars and come with complimentary continental breakfast, while the spacious Penthouse Suite features a circular bath and panoramic city views, plus free Champagne and fresh fruit.
