Why We Love This Hotel

  • The hotel is across the road from The Stray, a 200-acre stretch of parkland
  • Harrogate town centre is 10 minutes' walk away
  • This Grade II-listed property sits on the site of Harrogate's first hotel

Overview

Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate is 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Harrogate -- the "quintessential Victorian spa town", according to Lonely Planet.

This Grade II-listed 19th-century building sits on the site of Harrogate's first hotel, the Queen's Head Inn, which was built in the 1680s. The Turkish Baths & Health Spa is 15 minutes' walk away, and the Royal Hall, which hosts antique fairs, classical concerts, live comedy events and more, is a little further. On the way, you'll pass the famous Bettys tea room.

Ripley and Knaresborough castles are just over 10 minutes away by car, and Harewood House takes around 15 minutes. Mother Shipton's Cave and the Petrifying Well -- one of England's oldest tourist attractions -- is 10 minutes' drive away. You can also trek with llamas at Nidderdale Llamas in the Yorkshire Dales, or visit Brimham Rocks, both about 30 minutes' drive away. Pateley Bridge, a small market town on banks of the River Nidd that's home to England's oldest sweet shop, is 30 minutes' drive.

The hotel brasserie serves British and international cuisine, and has a selection of Yorkshire cheeses. There is an on-site gym, and all guest rooms have free Wi-Fi.

The hotel is just perfect for us. It is in an area that we really enjoy travelling around.
Other Comments
I guess we are getting old as the new reception is not really what we would expect. We still actually enjoy going to a desk and talking to a member of staff when entering the premises. However, I expect that this is the way things are going. It was a constant talking point with nearly every guest that we met.

Excellent spacious room, overlooking front gardens. Clean and fresh in all areas. Wonderful choice for breakfast. Dinner served in a beautiful room with varied choices including a glass of wine. Staff very helpful and attentive. Parking front & rear included.

A good 10minute walk into the Town but flat. On my visit they did not have Rose wine as per their Wine list. 2nd choice of Ginger Ale was not available nor Tomato Juice. Oops! Apparently waiting to restock. Overall though a great place to stay.

The interiors - very well designed and decorated. Stylish bedrooms.
Other Comments
The evening meal was disappointing - my main course and dessert were rather dry and obviously reheated/kept hot too long. The service was slow - not enough staff for a dining room that size - even though we ate early (6.15pm) and were glad we hadn't opted for 8.30 which was the only other time available. I was shocked on our second day at the hotel, to discover our room door was open and unlocked - and obviously left like that by the cleaners. We were fortunate nothing was stolen and for that reason alone, I would not stay there again.
