Located on a headland between Fistral Beach and the picturesque Gannel Estuary, Pentire Hotel in Newquay is a 10-minute stroll from one of the UK's most popular surfing spots and only five minutes' drive from the centre of town and the railway station.

With the South West Coast Path a 5-minute walk away, the hotel provides an ideal base from which to explore the local area on foot. The Blue Reef Aquarium and Newquay Zoo -- praised by The Daily Telegraph as "one of Britain's best zoos" -- are both within 10 minutes' drive of the hotel. Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps (for spectacular views of its giant sea stacks) and the picturesque fishing town of Padstow, made famous by Rick Stein's seafood empire, are both 25 minutes' drive away. Further afield, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are around 40 minutes' drive.

The hotel has an aromatherapy steam room and a heated indoor swimming pool, as well as a beauty treatment centre and a games room with pool and table tennis. The staff were extremely helpful during all of our stay.

We spent a couple of nights there as a couple with our dog. We could not have asked for anything more from the hotel. Everybody was really friendly and helpful making us feel like home. They had a full dog package provided to us with leaflets about dog friendly beaches and walks near the area, advice on what to do in the area with our dog etc. All in all a great experience

We had fabulous views from our room. The decor was modern and the bathroom recently fitted. There was no problem with noise from the downstairs celebrations as we were on the third floor. Breakfast was plentiful and the porridge delicious.
Other Comments
The negatives were the squeaky floor boards, the lack of a heated towel rail in the bathroom, the rusting of the screws/fitting for the grab rail in the shower, and the fitting of the mirror by the hairdrier being so low that I had to kneel to see my hair. Otherwise this hotel gets my vote!

Our room was cold despite the radiator working ok. I only mentioned it as we checked out, but as we waited in the lobby, 2 other rooms complained of their cold rooms. We found the bar almost as cold, it didn't seem to have the heating turned on. One radiator which was off, one electric radiator which was unplugged and an electric simulated coal fire which was only on flame effect (no heat). These matters apart, we were very pleased.

The view of Fistral Beach from our window.

The £10 credit was in fact only £6. The quality of food in the restaurant was average, as was the service. We paid for an upgrade in advance to ensure we had "the best room in the hotel", but it came with the most uncomfortable bed.
