Airport hotels are usually about one thing -- convenience -- and the Sofitel London Heathrow does that perfectly. It’s directly connected to Terminal 5 via a covered walkway, and the other terminals can be reached by free transfer. But this hotel offers luxury, elegance and a 3 AA-Rosette restaurant to boot.
If you have time on your hands, Heathrow is a surprisingly good base for sight-seeing. You can reach central London in just over 20 minutes on the Heathrow Express, and Windsor and its Castle are just nine miles away.
Back at the hotel, La Belle Epoque, the hotel's 3 AA-Rosette fine-dining restaurant, serves French cuisine with an Asian twist, while Vivre L’Experience des Saveurs is an open kitchen with various stations, including a deli and hot wok. A tea salon, Tea 5, offers 31 different teas and there are two bars -- the Perrier-Jouët Bar for Champagne, and the more relaxed Sphere Bar. The hotel also has a spa with a plunge pool, hammam, sauna, steam room and relaxation room (charges apply), as well as a fitness centre and beauty salon.
All rooms have soundproofed windows, so the planes can’t be heard, and come with free WiFi. Classic Rooms have a separate bath and walk-in shower, and some have views of the internal garden. Superior Rooms are larger, while Luxury Rooms include access to the swanky Millésime Lounge. The hotel has a number of suites, including the three-bedroom Imperial Suite, which features Swarovski Crystal bathrooms and a dining space.
