Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswold countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, with its quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Stayed in July & had an excellent time in all aspects but very disappointed this time round. All staff very pleasant & friendly but the service wasn't up to the standard we expected. Room was very small & tired, dirty mattress left right outside room which isn't a good look. We ate in the bar area as restaurant had a really strong smell of fish which wasn't a problem but the service wasn't great, side plates issued but no bread rolls offered which I mentioned when staff cleared starter plates, apologies made & rolls offered at this point. I am allergic to tomatoes so always scout the menu, chicken was my choice but when served chicken was on a bed of vegetables plus tomatoes so I was unable to eat my meal, at no point did any staff ask if everything was okay, even when clearing the table with 3 empty plates & one full meal did anyone inquire as to anything was wrong which is not expected from the Dumbleton or in fact any restaurant when you are the paying guest, pudding was great though. Sadly the service may of been lack due to a wedding taking place the next day so perhaps extra staff was needed.

In the middle of having rooms refurbished. Unfortunately ours was an old room and quite small. Reception could do with being a bit friendlier.
