Overview

Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three of his poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswolds countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, with its quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Setting and dining experience- food excellent- general ambience of the hotel - staff friendly and efficient

Suggest your waiters have designated tables to serve - was a bit chaotic ! Fire alarm not welcomed at 1am! - should have roll call - front door should be easily opened from inside by sleepy confused guests - we could have died before the door was opened! !! Breakfast coffee rather weak - asked for stronger version!- was provided without problem!

The greeting when we arrived was very friendly. The food - when it arrived, was excellent.

Room very small, our door hit the bed when you opened it. Sash windows difficult to open and would not stay open, one of the panes of glass was too small for its frame. Service in restaurant was appallingly slow and non-attentive - we had to keep asking to place orders instead of them coming to us! This was for both dinner and breakfast. Fire alarm went off at 01:15 in the morning, a very distressing awakening, and frightening. As we were walking along corridor to leave Hotel we were advised it was a false alarm!! We still have no idea what that was about and no apologies were forthcoming for our badly disturbed nights sleep. We understand they could not help the Fire Alarm but there was no empathy for the residents. Most disappointed as we expected more from such a Grand Imposing Building. We were not the only ones unhappy with our stay.

A grand hotel.
Other Comments
This once splendid hotel is gradually becoming more and more tired. Hovever the food is very good but can be let down by some indifferent service and attention to detail. With a little effort I am sure it can be returned to its former splendour.
